I, too, was quite unhappy when Kagura died, but let's all remember that her death was definitely not in vain; as a matter-of-fact Kagura's death was THE primary instrument of bringing Sesshoumaru's compassion to the surface. Without it, Tenseiga would never have been modded into the ultimate version that we see now. Rin's first death and first resurrection (and I say first because I do believe she will be revived again) began the process. And now, with Sesshy harrowing the horrors of hell for two human children, will complete it. Remember his mother saying that "…you must not feel fear nor sadness"? I think that's a clue that everything will be alright–at the end of this gruesome test. And the reason why this test is gruesome is Sesshoumaru's fault, and his alone. When Inu-papa devised this test, he wanted to make sure that Sesshoumaru would not just be able to FEEL compassion (Kagura's death), but would actively SHOW it, even risking his own life to do so. The very definition of love. Sesshy has always been able to feel empathy for others. It's just that the capability to feel for others has been buried under a ton of ambition, conceit, self-love, self-aggrandizing, etc.

Well, I dont think he had such feelings before, but that doesnt matter. Rin changed it a lot.
But I am still sad, Kagura shouldnt have to die (, she was with Sesshoumaru and InuYasha my most favorite character.
Hmmm… I must learn to live with the thought that she died…

You misread me. I never said that Sesshoumaru had any emphatic emotions of any kind (pre-Rin, that is). It is quite obvious that he did not. What I said was that he was always capable of having them. I don't know how familiar you are with the origins of Tenseiga, but Sesshomaru's capability to have genuine emotions of sympathy, empathy, pity, compassion, and ultimately love (for someone other than himself), had to have been present, for Tenseiga to accept him as its master. WE couldn't see that capability, but TENSEIGA could. There's just no other explanation. ^_^

Mmmmmmm….I don't really know whether rin is going to survive or not, I mean, if RT can take kagura out of the picture then what's stopping her from doing the same to rin. Don't get me wrong, I don't want rin to die in the slightest but it seems like the when people sesshoumaru sama care about die he gets more emotions and his tensaiga becomes more powerful. Personally I don't think rin will die because his father probably set it up so that sesshoumaru sama has to choose to save rin's live instead making his sword more powerful and then he'll pass the test and his sword become more powerful anyways. The end.^_^

In Chapter 467 (pg 18, 3rd panel) Sesshy-okaa-san stated that: "In order for the sword to mature, you pretty much have to make some sacrifices". It seems that indeed Kagura was one of those sacrifices…

In retrospect, although I am (still) not happy about Kagura's death, I honestly have to say that I admire the way her demise came about. She came to an end because she protected Kohaku, defying Naraku's wishes. She died having evolved into a much better person. She was actually heroic. Sesshy must have realized this…

Getting back to the issue, Sesshy really needs Rin. Just as much as Inu needs Kagome. Maybe even more so.

Is it just me or can anyone a few analogies to Heracles' Twelve Labors in Inuyasha? Not to do penance for killing any family members, but to make sure that both brothers understand the awesome responsibility of their powers?

Inu-papa was indeed wise… ^_^
