Inuyasha Manga Chapter 480: "Saigo no Kotoba" (The Last Word)

Higurashi's Preview

When InuYasha finally suppresses the mirror yokai and the battle with Kanna appears to end…

Starks' Take

It's pretty much now or never for Kanna, she has to say SOMETHING to Inuyasha's group. Furthermore, if she doesn't die now, we probably won't see her for a long time (perhaps not until at least chapter 500). Either way, I foresee something incredibly nasty happening to her in this chapter. It's pretty clear that she will die when her body shatters, but I have no clue as to what will directly cause that. Unless Kanna is stupid enough to pull a sneak attack, I don't see Inuyasha or Kagome being the ones to deliver the fatal blow. I see an interference from Byakuya to be the most likely scenario. If anything, I'd doubt he'd stand idly by as Kanna attempts to tell Inuyasha's gang anything remotely useful.

Starks' Double Take

Whoever finally "breaks" Kanna is gonna have some serious bad luck…

Will inuyasha suppress the mirror monster? Or will Kanna supress it herself after having a talk with inuyasha?

I seriously doubt that inuyasha will attack again, the battle seemes over. And will Byakuya fight this time? It would be a first…

I think the monster has already been subdued; it's on its knees, missing an arm, and its sword is completely useless unless there's some butter nearby.

Also, can someone PLEASE explain why the monster's arm was lopped off? The "Other" Tessaiga was still intact, and Kanna was still absorbing the monster's damage — so basically, there's zero reason why the Monster should have suffered damage then but not before.

to shouki: could it be simply because Kanna gave up this time?

I don't think that Kanna threw the fight… I'm pretty convinced that Inuyasha legitimately and throughly kicked her ass through the mirror demon.

To Comment: The only way Kanna could throw the fight is if she somehow turned off the monster's regenerative ability. But, only seconds before the right-arm attack, she/monster blocked with the left arm, and Kanna absorbed that damage. Why would she shut off the ability only seconds later? It couldn't be b/c she didn't want to absorb any more damage — b/c she did. And nothing really happened between attacks to change Kanna's mind.

It's not a major point, but the inconsistency irritates me.

Kanna is smart regardless of any potential change of "heart" (I'll use the term looslely). She's very tactical and I certainly wouldn't be surprised if she chimed in on Naraku's idea to send her to spy on Moryoumaru.

Maybe Kanna realized that Naraku doesn't care about her and Inuyasha and his peoples do. That's basically what Byakuya told her.

I'm really thinking something's going to happen with her. Like a relevation thing or maybe not out and out helping the crew, but something close. Just because they're showing concern for her. No one ever cared about the other guys they fought. Except Kagura, who they all fell over each other trying to be nice to right before she died. I kind of see the same thing going on, kind of a tendency in the writing, I guess. My guess kanna's doomed but there'll be some redemtion or another, and Takahashi doesn't want the good guys looking bad (beating up on her and then her doing something decent before dying.)

I've heard it confirmed, Kanna dies in this chapter. She commits suicide on the order of Naraku, so that her shards can kill Inu-gang. (doesn't work of course)One shard goes into Kagome's eye however, and Kanna tells her of the light of purity within the Shikon Jewel, that this is the way to destroy Naraku. This is her last words, hence the title.
Goodbye Kanna, join your sister in her freedom…

Naraku! You're days are numbered, slimeball!!!
