Inuyasha v49 ch484 Youdoku "Dissolving Poison"

Edit: Did the mailing-list work properly?

Second Edit: I noticed that the mailing-list plugin malfunctioned slightly and even brought the entire site down for a while… It sends an e-mail everytime I edit the Releases page unless I turn of the notification in the settings. I forgot to disable it.

Note: I am working hard to implement a new gallery view. Photobucket is really testing my patience.

The Freelance-Manga Mailing-List! (Down for the moment)

Filed under: Random — Starks at 11:37 pm on Monday, November 27, 2006

Want to be notified whenever a new chapter is released? Head on over to the Releases page and subscribe to the mailing-list!

Edit: I'd also like to remind everyone that this site does have an RSS feed (and a backup Atom feed). Bookmark it or save it to a feed reader. (Not compatible with IE6)

Second Edit: The subscription box should be fixed now!

Third Edit: Photobucket really is gonna screw me over for this week. LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID TO THE SCANS ON MY PHOTOBUCKET (Click on a 'Read Now' link)! Damn resizing makes everything such a pain in the ass. I gotta figure out how to implement lightweight gallery to this blog. A few problems though, I suck at PHP scripting, I can't afford the bandwidth to host scans on this site, I'm gonna have to rely on Photobucket. However, that won't stop me from having a streamline gallery that looks nice and doesn't arbitrarily resizes scans. I probably won't have this resolved before the release but it should be ready for next week.

(Archive Update: I'm currently engaging in the rather tedious process of updating the links for the archived chapters.)

Inuyasha v49 ch483
"Hone no Ori" (Cage of Bones)

Forgive me if the torrent is a little slow this week. I'm home and on a shitty cable connection (as opposed to an awesome 10Mb symmetrical college line).

Also, I plan to have newsletter/mailing-list system up soon. Wanna be the first to know when scanlations come out? STAY TUNED!

(There will be no hours of lag or delay between release and e-mail like those other guys. A mere 5 or 10 minutes at most.)

Ten years and still running strong…

Inuyasha v49 ch482
"Nerawareta Hiraikotsu" (Targeted Hiraikotsu)

NOTE: This week's release is bit larger to account for the pages colored by Rumiko and the extra high resolution images.

Sorry about the downtime… I may have to switch webhosts soon.

I kinda overloaded the servers the other day. I'm not exactly sure how. The birthday pictures and rotating banner must've put me over the load limit.

At any rate, I'm gonna try to trim the site down and see that helps reduce server load. Time to do daily SQL backups again.

Happy 10th Birthday Inuyasha!

You should be able to do most, if not all of the editing techniques outlined on this page (http://www.n-u-l-l.net/wiki/index.php/Edit) within 12 hours of raw/script availability. Even if you've never done something like this before, you must be familiar with the Photoshop/PaintShop/GIMP tools involved.

Preparing the pageRedrawing the pageTypsetting the pagePost-edit workNasty magazine cleaningTest your abilities

While most of these procedures are excessive and go beyond what will be needed for the Inuyasha raw scans, you must be prepared to do them if the raw quality is lower than  usual or if I specifically ask. The "recommendeds" for each week are dirt removal, leveling, and consistency with previous chapters. The "must haves" are text placement.

EDIT: If you need an example of "before and after" from raw to finished product, use THIS CHAPTER 481 RAW and compare it to the scanlation.

Koopa's Goodbye

Filed under: Random — Starks at 8:15 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006

I got an e-mail from our dear editor koopa593 today. (Yes, he speaks.)

Due to personal reasons (long story short: not as much time, it's becoming a burden) I will no longer be editing Freelance's Inuyasha releases. I just wanted to thank all the readers for their support & kind words, and I hope everyone enjoyed my stuff as much as I enjoyed giving something back to the community. ^_^

P.S. Support the series, buy the manga!

I wish him all the best and I'm sure our fans will have similar sentiments.

However, this does leave the group without an editor and a milestone chapter upon us (not to mention that special surprise I had planned). Until I can find a suitable replacement (this may prove more difficult than it sounds considering how damn good Koopa was with his 22 weeks of experience editing this series), I will be editing the scanlations. Rest assured, I'm a quick learner and I do have sufficient (barely perhaps) skill with Photoshop. Editing and cleaning Inuyasha scans should be pretty straightforward and the results shouldn't be noticeably different cosmetically from Koopa's work (I hope… <_<).

Additionally, I have college exams (top priority) and family commitments coming up real soon, and I really don't want to be put in a prolonged position where I need to maintain this group's site plus distribution methods and do editing at the same time (I'd also need to teach myself how to edit efficiently which may take more time than I'll want it to). I'll do it if I need to, but if it starts to impede on my school work I will be forced to slow down or even stop. That's just how the exam and holiday season is for fansubbers and scanlators, the pace of releases will slow down slightly. Keep the faith, stay with Freelance. We'll get through this…

As I mentioned earlier, I am recruiting. If you are interested in editing for Freelance, e-mail at the address listed on the staff page. All timescale goals and skill requirements (trust me, I'm really flexible with regard to goals) will be posted in the F.A.Q. section very soon (e-mail me in the meantime for any inquiries). It's also worth mentioning that there are a few perks to the job, the most obvious of which is the ability to see the chapters before 98% of the community. In a sense, you will be a community leader and loved by thousands (read as "1337"). EXPERIENCE OR FAMILIARITY WITH THE PROCESS OF EDITING OR SCANLATING IN GENERAL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED! EDITING INVOLVES RAW CLEANING, RAW FILTERING, AND TEXT PLACEMENT. DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU ARE CAPABLE OF DOING THIS!

10 YEARS OF INUYASHA!

Inuyasha Manga Chapter 482
Nerawareta Hiraikotsu (Targeted Hiraikotsu)

Shounen Sunday Preview: In celebration of the 10th anniversary, the front cover and color pages in the opening of the magazine
A new battle happens to InuYasha!?

InuYasha by Rumiko Takahashi

The serialization achieves the 10th anniversary, and the battle with Naraku who is reaching the complete of the shikon jewel, finally comes close to the final stage…!!And in this arc, it's a mysterious Bone Woman who appears before the InuYasha group… Sango's Hiraikotsu is targeted, and she and Miroku become in danger. And when InuYasha comes there, what he watches is…!? Don't miss the rapid development that a hard battle will surely occur!!

Starks' Take: There are plenty of things that can go wrong in this chapter and the next few weeks. Inuyasha is gonna be useless as a human so everything may depend on whether Miroku has the balls to open his wind tunnel.

Starks' Double Take: What the hell is up with weapons being targeted all of a sudden? Granted it isn't Tessaiga this time, but seriously, weapons are overrated plot devices. At least Rumiko is coloring at least half (maybe all) the chapter.

NOTE: We might be doing something "special" for the occasion…
