(While you enjoy chapter 480…)

Okay folks, it's been almost half a year since Freelance began its scanlating journey (time flies doesn't it?) and I've grown curious of what you, the fans, think about this group. Specifically, I'd like to know what you like and don't like about Freelance and perhaps give Koopa and I some suggestions on how we can make it a better experience for you. I'm fully open to hearing your thoughts and ideas. Be completely honest and flame me where necessary.

In addition to that, I'd like to float an idea of my own and see if you like it. How do you feel towards the addition of Inuyasha fan-art pages in our scanlations? To get an idea of what I'm talking about, take the popular Bleach scanlation group Maximum7 for example. They have incorporated fan-art and fan-colored scans (more than likely from past chapters) into their weekly releases. Would you like to see Freelance do something similar so long as it does not increase time between releases? Also, think about from an artistic point of view. If you're an artist or run of the mill deviant (deviantart.com user) who wants to show their work to large audience (at least 5,000 people every week), this would be your chance.

CLARIFICATION: There would be absolutely no obligation or any commitment whatsoever for submitting fan-art or color pages. Secondly, the colored pages would be taken from previous chapters (ie: Kanna's death gets colored for next week or a few weeks later).

I'm from Brazil and discover this page recently, but i liked the scanlations that you had done. i think there's no problem to put fan-art pages into the scanlation of the week, but they have to be on the beginning of the chapter (like the scanlatters usualy do). It' so fun to se a fan-art comic.
But I want to know if you have scanlations from 34 to 46. I would like to read Inu Yasha after the series end. I tried to find it on the net, but without sucess. If you have these, you should post it on the site, or try to get it from Japan (like you do with the chapters every week). we will be very gratefull. Thank you for give these scanlations to us!!!  (Quote)

Hi,

I spotted your team about one month ago and I have nothing to complain about.
I'm just happy to read my weekly inuyasha chapter, even if the images are quite small (not your fault, I assume).

I'm not interested in fan art, but some fan colourisations can be nice, if it's not too much work.

Thanks for all!  (Quote)

Hi guys,
thanks for all your work on Inu Yasha.
I have nothing to complain about.

That's a peach of an idea. Additional pages with fanarts are a nice idea though…
I do a little coloring in PS and just recently I started to color the covers.
I would say I help you out with some colorpages if the time zone wasn't such a big problem.
So, once more, thanks for your hard work and sorry I'm not able to help.

cheers.

If you want scanlations for volumes 34-46, check out this site.

http://s11.invisionfree.com/The_Evil_Empire/index.php?showtopic=4649

It's the only site that I know of that has chapters 1-480. The 10 post rule is a bitch, but until I gather the testicular fortitude to copy all the links and make a page that allows easy access.

The raw source we used for the earlier chapters were higher resolution than the ones we currently use. Since that source is no longer available, we had to find another one. Our friend has been very generous to provide us with raws (which I will admit are a bit small). I never thought of asking her if bumping up the resolution was possible.  (Quote)

I REALLY like your scanlations, you're my group for Inuyasha :P

While I don't really like fanart, I do like colored scans, so that would be great :)   (Quote)

I love your site and have nothing to complain about.

The best part is the direct downloading and no bitchy post rules.

You guys are the best and will be my source to the end.  (Quote)

I have been comeing to this site for my Inuyasha fix for a while now. I say do not change a thing. Image size is fine; it's readable and free, so no complaints. I will put my vote for a "no" on fan-coloring the pages. If it does get implimented, I hope you add and not replace pages (have both the orginal and the fan-colored). As for fan-art, I'd prefer a weekly fan-artist focus with the release. Put a bit about an artist and a link to their site (or more of their art) with the weekly release posts. Absolutly best things about this group/site: Direct downloads and no friggin' ads!  (Quote)

Great website! I love it!

While you're busy colorizing pages, could you animate them too? I'm starting to miss the anime :-) Okay, just kidding… unless you really want too? Yeah, I'm just kidding.

I wish other manga trans were as good as yours, but hey, beggers cant be choosers. I wish the publishers put them out quicker in the US.  (Quote)

I'm a convert from Maki Maki. I really don't have anything to complain about; the site has gotten more robust, the discussions are all right, Starks seems really considerate — no real complaints at all.

I guess it would be nice to have more discussions..? It's up to the posters to figure that one out, though.  (Quote)

I will admit that this site seems to move a bit faster than Ris' and I apologize for making the discussions seem rushed. I do plan have a forum system up and running soon.  (Quote)

After Kuro (ear-tweak) dropped the weekly scanlation, I was starved for Inuyasha scanlation for 2 whole weeks, until a friend told me that there is another scanlation groups who picked up where Kuro left off, suggesting that I should look for it in tokyotosho.com, and found you guys along with makimaki. At first I downloaded both groups scanlation, to see which suits my taste best, and found yours suits mine better than makimaki esp. in font selection and font size.

No cmplaints about the image size (I usually resize any scantlation I downloaded to the size of maximum 1024px width or 900px height, reduce only to save space, while keeping a comfortable page to read, no offence to the cleaners and scanlator who labor to produce fine releases).

But I do complain about 2-pages page that sometimes shows up with a white/missing area in the middle of it like some chapters back depicting the hell hound took Rin and Kohaku through the hell portal, which I had to patched it myself.

My only wish about your release is that it will come in slightly larger size, some 200px higher than usual.
And a full, no missing area for a double-page pages.

As for fanart, not every fanart will meet everyone standard, therefore, I don't think that it is needed to add any additional download bytes, esp for people with slow internet speed like me. Instead, why not make it optional, and include a preview of the fanarts in your releases, with a link to download the specific fanart, that way one does not need to download a ridiculous size of 12 MB a chapter, and found that 5 MB of them is made up from fanarts that none of them meets that person taste.

But as inucat stated in post 619, "beggers cant be choosers"

Sorry for my babling nonsense  (Quote)

1. With regard to image size, there's nothing we can do when the raws themselves are small. Resizing looks horrible and degrades the quality severely. I will ask our raw scanner if anything can be done to increase raw scan size.

2.We stitch the 2+ page spreads together ourselves, I will ask Koopa if he can get rid of the white spaces.

3. Considering that our releases are currently no bigger than 3MB, any fan-art that would potentially be included would be minimal, about 2 or 3 images max. I doubt the file size would drastically increase. At any rate, there would be file size and resolution restrictions for fan-art. Additionally, we would optimize all images in Photoshop for better compression. The "optional" and "preview" ideas do sound good.  (Quote)

That's on purpose, too much of the image is missing. It looks bad to just shove them together so I judge about how much is missing and space them appropriately.  (Quote)

I forgot to mention this when I initially responded to you but, there is going to have to be compromise between file size and scanlation size. As much as I'd like to have both, you have to give a little to gain a little.

If the size of the scans are increased, file size will also increase.

For example, if we increased the size of our raw scans to 830×1200, file size could bloat to over 5MB.  (Quote)

Would a file size increase of 512KB (total size for 3 fan-colored pages) be considered fair if they weren't optional?  (Quote)

Sorry for the triple post…

But here's what our friend told me about higher resolution raw scans.

"Of course, it can. But I'm not want a situation that scanlations are being distributed with the resolution higher on the net because of a fear that higher-resolution scanlations excite the Japanese publisher."  (Quote)

Thank you for your kind response, and sorry for answering after such a long time, I didn't thought that my wistful thinking and as I typed before "my babbling nonsense" – would cause such commotion.

As for page size, I never enlarge it, I merely reduce its dimensions to 1024×900 px if it were bigger than that. And changed its format to JPEG while maintaining the image quality the best I could.

As for additional 512 kb seems reasonable enough.

Lastly, just wanted to say, good bye koopa (though I hope not permanently), and welcome Azula.  (Quote)
