Inuyasha Chapter 499 Full Spoiler

Inuyasha v51 ch499 "Ayakashi no Kakera" (Demon's Shard)

…AND FOR THE LAST TIME,

THE MANGA IS NOT ENDING AT 500!*

*I sincerely hope…

(Courtesy of Anonymous Poster on 2ch.net and our translator, Patches.)

Kagome purifies Kohaku's shard. They talk with Kohaku. Then a monologue. Kagome, Kohaku, Sango, Rin, Inuyasha, and Jaken are there. They talk. Oh, Shippou's there, too.

Scene change to a beach. Miroku's shouki wound appears to have spread.

Scene change to Sesshoumaru. Monologue. A voice calls out and attacks him. He uses his Hell-whatever technique. The owner of the voice is Byakuya. They talk. Sesshoumaru attacks. He hits. But Byakuya disappears. When he opens his hand, he's holding a mirror fragment.

Scene change back to Inuyasha's group. Inuyasha and Jaken are fighting. Rin notices Sesshoumaru's return. Sesshoumaru appears. Monologue. He appears to have gotten Tessaiga's power from the mirror fragment. It seems to be Naraku's trap.

Sesshoumaru: (However, this trap… there is merit to going along with it.)

Sesshoumaru: "Draw, Inuyasha."

Sesshoumaru draws his sword while Inuyasha goes "Wha…" and Jaken stands there with his mouth hanging open, and then it goes to the next issue.

And now Sesshoumaru has me saying, "Duuuuhhh huh?" o_O

And Rumiko has me going, "WTF???"

Again, she's resolving all (OK…most) of the story arcs in this year?? I'm confused as to how.

WTF?

Sessho vs. Inu…again?! I'm getting tired of you two squabbling! Just cooperate already!! We need to end this.

Sessho, I'm suprised at you! Letting Naraku use you in your emotional state?! If you get dishonored again, this time its on you.

if the next chapter is the last chapter of the manga series, then I have a feeling the manga is going to end the same way the anime did, a rushed ending with not to mention an awful cliffhanger. I think Rumiko ought to go farther than just up to 500 chapters because there has a lot in the this story that needs to happen before it can end, like Inuyasha and the gang defeating Naraku, Kagome's decision on whether or not she's going to stay with Inuyasha or go back to her own era forever (even though it's pretty predictable on what she's going to decide), what's going to happen with sesshomaru (considering he's still super angry about what he heard about Tenseiga being a lesser sword and all) etc. well I just don't think she's going to be able to fit all of that in the last chapter.

It's not going to end at 500 folks. RT said she was aiming to go to AT LEAST 500, not that she was stopping at 500. With the way things are going it could go another 25-30 chapters.

And about that spoiler, well I knew Sess wasn't going to give up Tensaiga without a fight. Come on now, it's not in his character. I agree that I wish this sword thing should just be put to rest, but at the same time, he could be seeing if Inuyasha is truly fit to wield the complete Tessaiga by battling him. Inuyasha's proven himself many times, but this is the ultimate technique I think, that would be the key to defeating Naraku. Sess'll prolly put up a good fight, but he'll have to say bye bye to his father's momento pretty soon.

Gomen, it's just I think I heard both versions and now I'm not sure anymore which is the right one… I don't think that much people can mistype or… or… I dunno… Please, what do you say…?

Anyway, the chapter seems to be really exciting and… ~drum roll~ Sesshoumaru is back! Yay! Banzaii!!! xD

I don't know. I have a bad feeling the whole Inu/Kag thing. I don't really see them ending up together at the end of all this. It'll probably end up with he chosing to go back to her era and stay there.

I think it's weird how everyone automatically assumes Sessomaru's "reverting to his kill-inuyasha stage" and is doing this out of "emotion" etc.

No, I think he merely wants to confirm everything he's been told so far. He's got Myoga telling him his dad gave him Tenseiga for one reason, Shishinki saying another and Totousai saying yet another thing. What's the only way to confirm it for himself? To test Tenseiga against Tessaiga. Is Tenseiga just an inferior sword, or "shard" of Tessaiga? Or, in this case, if it were able to have the same powers as Tessaiga, is it equal? That's the reason he accepted Kanna's mirror shard, to him finding that out is much more important than being tricked by Naraku.

Either way the battle will be awesome and will hopefully finalise the sword issue once and for all. Sessomaru finds himself having to make a decision about the sword, and once this battle confirms everything for him, we'll see a change. This is about change guys, not reverting (even though Sessomaru is understandably being a jealous mutt)

(Quote)

KagomeKagomeNo Gravatar

March 25, 2007 @ 7:08 am

I don't think he's reverting to his old self. I just think that the timing is a little odd, but what do I know?

And yes, everyone, the manga is scheduled to end sometime this year, but not at chapter 500. ^_~

Some part of me thinks this manga won't end well, if Rumiko does it like a true Japanese fairytale (a la The Hero in the 21st Century).

It's probably a mirror shard from Kanna, which may contain some residue of Tessaiga's power.

Sessho is irritating. His act is old, he's turning into one redundant, angsty moron. This arc will probably end with him finally relinquishing Tensaiga to Inuyasha, but man, I hope Sessho gets his ass handed to him already.

No offense to anyone personally but it's been getting on my nerves so I gotta say it:

THE MANGA'S NOT GOING TO END AT EXACTLY 500 CHAPTERS SO QUIT ACTING LIKE IT IS!!!

Now with that out of the way, yes Aravel it is memento technically, but momento is becoming a more accepted synonym because people have been making the memento/momento mistake for many years.

I doubt Rumiko Takahashi will end this on a cliff-hanger. Whether people like them or not, she tends to end her series' in the best and sometimes only way they can end so I don't see why that would be any different from Inuyasha. And dammit people, stop acting like it's going to end like Ranma. They're completely different.

I'm not too worried about when it's going to end. More like interested in how. A lot of the chapters are leading toward some bad endings for some of our favorites. Personally I've got my fingers crossed for Miroku at this point. Here's for him not going out with out getting the curse lifted. He's worked so hard for it, I think he should at least get to taste the rewards if he's gonna die.

I am ok with the manga extending a little past 500 chapters, but it better not go too far further. In the last ten years, I have graduated from high school and college, got married, bought a house, and had three children. I LOVE THIS MANGA BUT I NEED CLOSURE! Man I am hoping for a great ending, happy, sad, or both- and then an OVA :o )

(Quote)

DNo Gravatar

As far as Miroku goes I wouldnt worry. The poison is extending up through his air void "sorta" to his heart which will kill him. The entire problem is caused by his use of the air void. So since the air void will disappear with the death of Naraku it seems logical that either the poison will entirely disappear from his body one Naraku is dead or if nothing else it will become mostly a non-issue because he wont beable to use it anymore to spread the damage. Im worried about how the manga will end also. What can I say I like drama and angst in a story but I want a happy ending. Unfortunately many, or I may dare to say most endings in J-manga/anime are sad or atleast bitter sweet. So im worried that Kagome is going to get trapped on the side of the well or else wake up and have this all be some sort of dream or something. If it comes to that I can imagine she would wake up with Inu's rosary on her bedstand or something but that would suck I want a happy ending.

Here are some thoughts about the ending:
1. It is clear from chapter 6, that the Noh mask had a shard of the jewel. So does the jewel ever get completed, is it Kohaku’s shard that somehow ends up in the tree? It is not clear that the mask was a demon in the true sense- perhaps just possessed- it was originally carved from a tree with a shard imbedded in it. Other than the soul piper (arguably a creature of the spirit world), there is not a lot of further evidence that demons still exist in the modern world.
2. If demons do not exist in the modern world, this anticipated epic battle between inferior and higher order demons could spell the end of an era, and the beginning of a new era. When the inferior demons are destroyed, perhaps the surviving higher order demons would no longer coexist with humans, perhaps a “Spirited Away” type arrangement where demons and humans have a parallel, but mutually exclusive existence. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha would face a choice, whether to leave as demons or to stay as humans. Neither S nor I would want to leave their respective humans behind. With respect to I- this wouldn’t be consistent with the recurring “Inu is fine just the way he is” theme.

I would really like to see the following happen:
1. Miroku and Sango live happily ever after and raise Kohaku (and possibly Rin- if S has to make an exit) together. Who knows maybe Kohaku and Rin end up getting hitched :o )
2. Sesshomaru loses his angst (not his other arm :o ), accepts his brother, and gives him a nod of approval.
3. Kagome and Inuyasha live happily ever after as well. However, as a lot of people have noted in their posts, this stroy will most likely end up bitter sweet end up bitter sweet. Kagome has got a strong connection with her family I don’t see her being willing to simply ditch them, unless the choice is forced on her- the well stops ferrying her back and forth. Hopefully Takahashi strings us along, making us believe that Inu/Kag thing is over, and in the end, one of them finds a way to reach the other. It may end up that Inuyasha has to wait several hundred years to see her again! Anyway the Tree would probably help bridge the gap.
4. Koga and the little wolf chick get together.
5. Shippo gets to stay with his gang.
6. We find out who takes over from Kaede to care for the shrine and be the ancestor of the Higurashis.

I would love to hear what anybody else thinks might happen!

You bring up an interesting point. Does the damn thing ever get completed? Are we lead to believe that when the jewel broke, a piece of it traveled out the well and into that mask? If I remember correctly, wasn't the mask already said to be possessed? So that would have to mean that the jewel was never completed. Unless by jumping into the past, Kagome has created an alternate one, and those events have/will have changed.

Now I know how Doc and Marty felt in Back to the Future.

Let's just leave it at "Rumiko screwed up".

As far as the "demons in the future" thing, they do exist, remember? I can't remember the name of it, but it involved that little girl, Mayu, who refused to go to her eternal resting place. Apparently, demons exist in Kagome's future, but either 1.) they are easily able to disguise themselves or 2.) they're invisible to everyone else except those who believe/have spiritual powers.

The little wolf chick (Ayame?) is only in the anime, so poor Kouga will still be lonesome.

Finally, I've seen many fanfics where Miroku and Sango are Kagome's however-many-great-grandparents who take over the shrine, and while that would be cool, it's also a rather simple solution, and nothing's ever that simple in life. Perhaps (a la Futurama with Fry being his own grandpa) Kagome could be her own however-many-great-grandma? If she gets trapped in the past, that is.

Or who knows, the well doesn't have to close. Just like with Firewalker, Kagome could keep crossing the well indefinitely (but I doubt that it will happen).

As for me, I'd just like a satisfying ending, even if it's bittersweet, sweet, or worse than bittersweet. And I'm another one in the "get over your woe-is-me complex, Sesshoumaru" department. I like angst as much as the next guy, but damn, overly angsty Sess is annoying already.

Kagomekagome I don't think Rumiko messed up. The jewel is/was completed in the past, because Kagome brought the jewel shard from her future into the past. Kagome is a part of the past! I think Rumiko purposely did this so that way Kohaku would have a way to live. Then when Kohaku's old and ready to die he could just stick the jewel back in the tree so Kagome could find it later in the future, and bring it back. Maybe Sesshoumaru will find it to redeem himself for being stupid and leaving Rin and Kohaku alone. — anyway that's my theory.

As far as the Noh mask goes, I'll agree with Starks on this one. It's been so long ago since I read that arc, but the Noh mask was supposed to have been causing problems since it was carved, and Rumiko never said what tree it was carved from, did she? Kind of defeats the "Kohaku put it in the Goshinboku" theory, I think…sorry.

As for the Noh Mask, if the current Shikon No Tama has its shard from the future, couldn't that mean there are 2 of them? Meaning somewhere in the feudal time a shard is still in that tree.

Barring all time paradoxes, you would be correct.

My head hurts every time I attempt to apply temporal logic to Inuyasha…

I got a question to all of you… a poll. It is someone from InuYasha´s group dying before or at the very ending? (and who knows when it is the ending gonna be…) What do you believe? And who?

For example, I think Miroku might die (but I don´t want it to happen!!!!), but you know, in action. Or Sesshomaru, and then InuYasha could have the two swords together and beat Naraku… what do you think? It has a lot of options :P .

And sorry for my english… I think it´s not pretty good :D .

My bets are on Miroku…but I think that Inuyasha is also a possibility…I could see some sacrifical actions…as a possibility.

Kohaku will likely die.
And if we're lucky, Sessho will lose another arm so he can bitch about something else besides his damn sword.

Highly doubt Inu will die.

Hmm.. Really, I can't see anyone dying, to be honest. Miroku would be my biggest bet, but I'm unsure of what'll happen with the shouki in his body after the Kazaana is gone. My bet is that it'll clear, and he'll live, but I'm unsure XD

OH. Besides Kohaku. I'm pretty sure that's a given at this point, unless that's what they use the Shikon Jewel for.. but that'd be cliche.

On the topic of it ending.. Someone on MakiMaki brought up that the jewel has to be made pure with a self-less wish, right? So what would happen if Kagome Wish for Kikyo to come back so she and Inuyasha could be together? And maybe that is her History? I don't know, it just seemed to make a lot of sense toward the bitter sweet idea.

As for the shard in the mask, maybe by killing the mask and bringing the shard into the past to complete the jewel in that time, they're somehow missing a shard in the past that in the future gets made into the mask and it cycles on some sort of weird time loop?

Ow, i made my head hurt.

Takahashi really ought to end this series. I feel that she is milking the series for all it's worth. How many more useless fillers and "filler" villians does one series need? Miroku is going to die if he continues using his Wind Tunnel, Sango and Miroku are both fond of each other (as are Inuyasha and Kagome), drying paint is more interesting than Sesshomaru, Sesshoumaru is envious of his brother, etc. OKAY! I THINK WE GET IT! KTHX BAI! Damn. I think this is the only anime/manga series where I can honestly say that my favor for it has decreased progressively over the years. Ten bucks says the ending will be cliched and saturated in fan service.

$20 says that it will be some sort of non-ending like Ranma 1/2, and she piss off legions of fans again.

I can honestly say that I used to like Sesshoumaru, but now the angsty "Inuyasha's penis sword is bigger than mine!! WHY DADDY WHY???" attitude is turning me off.

Does the jewel really have to be purified with a "selfless wish"? Isn't the wish thing some sort of crap started by fanfiction (like Inu-Papa's name being "Touga" or "Inunotaishou" or the whole biting/mating thing)? Or did it come from the "Kikyou wanting human Inuyasha/50 years ago" story arc?

Man, my head hurts.

I got it from the whole Inuyasha becoming human. If the jewel is used for pure, it will become pure idea.
