Shounen Sunday interview with Rumiko

Filed under: Chapters — Starks at 12:06 am on Sunday, April 1, 2007

Details are starting to emerge about the Rumiko Takahashi interview in this week's issue of Shounen Sunday. The biggest shocker of all is that Rumiko dropped a hint about how much longer Inuyasha is going to continue for. (Translation courtesy of HaRiKaRi)

Daisuke Hasegawa (Shounen Sunday Lead Editor): Inuyasha seems to be wrapping up rather quickly as of late. Are you glad that it's almost over?

Rumiko Takahashi: In actuality, it's quite the contrary. Unfortunately, things haven't been going as I planned. I miscalculated a few things and I don't want Inuyasha to end up like Ranma. I'll probably need another 100 or so chapters to accomplish what I am planning. Inuyasha isn't over quite yet. I want to give the fans a proper ending, so with that being said, onward to 600.

Edit: In case you haven't figured it out by now, this was an APRIL FOOLS joke… GET OVER IT! ^_^

I'm glad that she wont end Inuyasha like she did with Ranma. I was really sad with the ending in Ranma. :)

I don't understand those people who is sad about those 100 chapters. As long as Inuyasha is going on, I'm glad. :D

Well, just in my opinion in fact, I wanna see 600th chapter but if it doesn't go like that, that's OK, too. These days I'm getting a lot of feelings that Inuyasha'll end this year… :(
Anyway, it was very-very nice, Starks.>_>

Ah, Danton! Welcome finally! :D Now we can discuss things here, as well, right??? Right?! xD

What happened was that Ranma was going to recieve some of the water that would cure him of changing into a girl, but his friend or uncle? got ahold of it and thougt it was sake and drank the whole barrel, only after everybody else that was enchanted tried to get to it first after finding out what it was…. *WHEW*… something like that.

Inuyasha better have a good ending, because it's been running for so long with the same old bad guy and everything. -w-

Oh yes, this has nothing to do with the manga, but I think there's a new fifth Inuyasha movie called "The Final Confrontation" – I've seen a few things about it and there's a download on LimeWire. o_O Does anyone else know about it?

It's nothing more than the final episode. There is no 5th movie.

About the 5th movie… I headr something a few month ago, but what everybody thought was a trailer of the 5th movie, but it turned out it was only a trailer of a new game, I heard xD
Mmmm… do anybody know something if there'll be OVA(s)? I heard some rumour, as well. I know there's possibility, now the manga is finally coming to an end, though I don't know for sure… I mean, my japanese isn't so good (moreover, my kanji-knowledge^^"), to easily read yomiuri tv's news^^" or sg like that^^"

Imo, Ranma couldn't have ended any other way.

We can't compare Inuyasha to it because IY is a linear, narrated story. There's a firm beginning, middle and end, and most importantly the emphasis is on resolution. There's a firm goals such as to defeat Naraku, get married + have 10 kids, or "get that damned sword."

Ranma was very sitcom-like and thus she could end it whenever she wanted to. She created a situation and had fun with it, introducing many elements to shake it up. We already know that Ranma and Akane love eachother, why do we need to see real resolution in the form of a happy peaceful ending? It's more fun that things were left open for the imagination. As Lemonlime said, they were still in school. I think if it had a closed ending it would've been more disappointing. I love the idea that Ranma and Akane went off to have many more adventures before tying the knot and settling down.

I agree with lemonlime and effo on Ranma.

They were still in high school and it went with the craziness and unpredictability of the whole manga.

Plus the last page says the marriage was delayed for just a little while, so it's really not that open-ended anyway.
