Wow… There is a shit-load of Information in this book. A good deal of conflicting artwork regarding Sesshoumaru's arm, Miroku's arm, and Kaede's eye.

If you want me to scan or reprint any specific information, don't be afraid to ask.

Starks: Conflicting to the anime, or things she's contradicted since then in the manga?

(Quote)

Conflicting to the Viz localization of the manga. Remember how they flip the pages? Some pages in this book have Sesshoumaru's left arm gone, others have the right arm gone. Same thing with Miroku's wind-tunnel arm.

I don't know why viz flips the pages either, I hate that part of it.

RT said before that his boa, as she called it, was part of Sess and that it was Not a tail. That was a few years ago. I hope to pick up a copy of this special this weekend (it is going to be a busy one as June tends to be……grads/birthdays/weddings). Viz doesn't do too bad of a job (not like there is much choice in the matter) I do wish they would just follow the format of the manga though.

Starks: You could you post the info on Kikyou and Kagome? There is always a lot of controversy  surrounding  them, and much of it is cleared up in the guidbook.

(Quote)

StarksNo Gravatar

June 8, 2007 @ 11:11 pm

Kagome's clothes: The reason she wears her uniform is that it's durable, can stand repeated washing, and is easy to wear. The length of her skirt is just long enough so that you can't see her underwear. The reason she doesn't wear slacks? Because I don't want her to!

Who's more powerful: If you ask whose spiritual power is stronger, Kagome's or Kikyou's, I would have to say that in the end Kagome's is stronger. However, at the moment most of her power has not yet developed.

Kikyou's power:  I think her strong spiritual power is innate. Her skill with the bow and arrow is the product of diligent practice during her training period. Although I don't think she practices anymore.

(Quote)

haroNo Gravatar

DavidK: I have to admit I was a little let down by what we got on them. I think the only really big new 'fact' was the absolute statement over who holds more spiritual. RT just doesn't like to answer questions. XD

I got such a kick out of those Naraku gazette pages though. I would scan those!

According to Viz's typos, Ryukoususei was defeated by Kagome and Tsubaki by InuYasha. Also, random wolf-dude thief from the Rin arc is actually Hakkaku.

The Paparazzi-Bee segments are friggin' hilarious. I bet Naraku wishes deep down that Kagome's power really did reside in her thunderous thighs.

I also like the area graphs analyzing the stats and spiritual alignment of each character. Sesshoumaru and Super Shredder Naraku were a near even match?!?!?!

Cycle of the Shikon no Tama: When Midoriko and the demons fought and the Shikon Jewel was produced, it was in the Heian period (794 to 1185) in Japanese history. It was lost once in the Warring States era and recently revived, so it would seem that its cycle is every 500 years or so.

(Quote)

DaviDKNo Gravatar

Starks: I bet you've caught them, but all of VIZ's translations have glaring errors. There are typos galore in all of the tankobon, spelling errors, poor grammar, etc. It's as though the translator speaks English as a second language. Of all the VIZ translations I've read, Inuyasha has to be one of the poorest quality. I haven't caught very many errors in Hayate or Bleach.

Starks: I wonder if they will push the release up, VIZ's biggest competition is VIZ, most of the big Shonen titles are there's. But I guess if they stick to four releases a year the fans that don't know about scanlations will lose interest and move on to other titles.

(Quote)

StarksNo Gravatar

The rate is indeed unfair. It took Viz over 4 years to bring this book to the Americas. I can't imagine how long it'll take to get to volume 51.

First of all, he is 15 years old (in human years) instead of the 18 that was listed on Wikipedia (now updated).

Secondly, he creates the whirlwind by smashing into the air and creating a vacuumed vortex.

Thirdly, his "tail" is actually on the pelt he wears.

Fur of the Wolf-Demon Clan: "The thing is…the fur represents the memories of comrades, such as those that have passed away, and so it is worn as a memento, I think. To inherit their will…I think it represents that as well.

ITA Viz's translations are horrid when it comes to Inuyasha.

The anime is one of the worse translations that I know of. I wouldn't say that the whoever does the translations for them speaks English as a primary language, but it certainly is not Japanese either. What really bothers me the most on the anime is that they have changed the story so much. They seem to remake the story as they see fit. No it isn't a matter of changing something to match a characters' lip movement…….they actually do ok with that. They do change a lot of lines for characters that are "off screen" it is just bizarre. Being such a money maker I just don't understand why they are so careless and thoughtless. It isn't like they don't know that, they have received plenty of backlash for their blunders from fans, they just keep on with the same soddy wordmanship.

(Quote)

DaviDKNo Gravatar

June 9, 2007 @ 11:11 am

Sorrel: I've never understood why they change so much with IY. Filler is a fact of life with long running anime, and with the limited run series and movies you have to expect arcs and/or characters to be left out, but I've never seen a series of Inuyasha's quality with wholesale plot changes. The episode that particularly bothered me was when Sango first took everyone to Midoriko's cave. I will never understand why the anime left out the fact that the great demon was actually a hanyou. It seems kind of important that the evil within the Shikon no Tama is akin to Naraku and that the conflict between Kikyou and Naraku is the jewel replaying it's own history. It would have taken one line to explain this and I can't fathom why it needed to be left out.

Hah! I got it!!!! I think I know why VIZ wrote that Kikyou has baboon fur!!! :D

Do you remember when… well, it was in the beggining of the story, when Naraku wanted another body (firstly?) and he had youkai alikes fighting in a mountain and the winner would end up being his part, but then came Inuyasha and won and then came Naraku, as well and there were also Kagome and Kikyou and when Naraku escaped, he wrapped Kikyou in his baboon fur and brought her to his castle/palace/whatever… you know, this was right before Kikyou got the a big portion of the Shikon no Tama from Kagome and gave it Naraku…

Maybe that's why VIZ thought it was part of her costume xDD

Jakotsu: eh… his clothes are casual??? @.@ maybe for a woman, but most definately not for a man xD

Sesshoumaru: hm-hm… the vitality isn't on the max., I think because of his missing left arm… but he seems energic enough when the time comes xDD and about intellect… I was surprised it wasn't on the max., sure he got some issues with his Father Heritage, but… ~sighs~

Oh, and when it was of Eri, Yuka and Houjo… xDD waaah! It was hilarious! Houjo as Yuka… pffft. xDD

Anyway, thanks for scanning the pages about Sesshoumaru, Starks!^^

Hmm, me too was surprised about Sesshoumaru's intellect. I disagree with the book at this point. Of course he didn't act that clever when the whole Tenseiga thing happened but it's only 'cause his feelings overcame him. Hey, that could have happened to everyone! And it's so obviously that he's jelaous 'cause his father seemed to love Inuyasha more.

Well, there's fun fact of the day for you.

I'd like to know if these screw ups are just consistent with anything Viz publishes or if its JUST Inuyasha? I only own FMA manga…which is the same company…and either I'm too dense to notice these screw ups, (which is not likely I hope) or they really aren't there.

I am begining to think that no one from Viz has actually watched or read Inuyasha.

This reminds me of a preview I seen from the menu on the Sat. I was checking it to see what was on. At that time the anime episode was were Sess fought Jakotsu, the preview called him a woman. It cracked me up.  If a person just glances at the episode/chapter they would have no idea what really was going on in the story and everything about Viz seems to be way off the mark when it comes to Inuyasha.

Kagome's father died in a car accident, same interview when RT said Sess's boa is not a tail. I wished the site was still up that posted the interview. It was around/ just before the 400th chapter. Of course his fluff is part of his body. You need only to look at him in his true form to notice that he is still wearing it around his body, his clothing doesn't grow or stay with him when he changes. (That would be kind of bizarre).  His whole outfit could very well be part of the illusion that he creates for appearing human. Either that or he has a infinite supply of the same clothes…..or really really good tailors. Since no matter how many times he rips, tears, or stains his clothes/ armor…….as soon as he is well he is back to being pristine white again.

(Quote)

Demon armor/clothes regenerate I guess.  I think that was in one of the pages Starks scanned.  It's funny because Inuyasha has been gutted, impaled, just about everything happened to that robe he wears and by the next arc it's fine again.

This book seems like a fun read, but some of the things RT says are not what they seem in the manga…ahemKagomebeingstrongerthanKikyoahem…but it looks fun nonetheless.

Almost all of his characteristics would leave one to believe that he was a girl with his feminine voice and his infatuation with Inuyasha, but everyone kept referring to him as a male. It wasn't until several episodes later that I came to the revelation that he was a gender confused, eccentric, awesome, male crossdresser.

I can't remember who asked about Mokomoko-sama, but I thought the interview from long ago mentioned that it was his "scruff" — the hair around his neck that you see when he's transformed.  There you go.  Thank God it's not armpit hair.  Or hair from another certain area.  o_O

I don't know how relevant this it to anyone, but to those debating about the intellect (how Viz translated it) rating- it really means wisdom. I guess you could say worldly-wiseness. It's not how perceptive they are or their IQ or anything.

This is why a naive character like InuYasha ranks lower for example, and why the younger the character, generally the lower they rank. Except Shippou, somehow.

Shadow Dragon: I always thought they messed up Jakotsu's voice. I am not going to try and defend having a woman do the voice of a homosexual man, that just seems wrong. The woman who did the voice didn't even try to sound like anything but a woman on top of that. She didn't even try sounding like a stereotype, that wouldn't have been a good thing either. Like you I thought he was a she at first, then I couldn't decided, and it wasn't until his kimono was destroyed by Sess that I knew the truth.

Eh, they probably just got a woman to do it because they didn't want to have to explain homosexuality to the kids (come on, they know kids are watching Adult Swim and buying the DVDs) watching it.  Or heaven forbid they offend someone with a gay zombie murdering bandit.

Case in point:  DiC thought it was better to make Haruka (Amara?) and Michiru (Michelle?) cousins in the Sailormoon dub than to leave them as lesbian lovers.  Apparently near cases of televised incest is more decent than a loving lesbian couple (although Haruka's a bit of a player).

I have never watched the Viz version, I am not sure but I don't think Viz has released that far yet. I started buying the DVD's individually at first but prefer the season sets much better, they have at least some extras to them. My son watches them….I hate them. The subbed is so much better.

But I do admit the extras are kind of cool. The coins, and jewel shards…..nifty little kick-knacks to put along side of my DVD's.

DavidK, download a snubbed from Ani-kraze. Just get a bittorrent (if you don't already use one) and pick up the rest of the episodes. They are sooo much better.

Starks: Thanks for the great scans!!!  The stats are pretty cool…and Kikyo looks real fine in that scan (No wonder Inu can't let go of her)!  I was wondering perhaps Naraku has perfect intellect?

Yeah Jakotsu confused me a bit too, the face and clothes were a typical woman, being voiced by a woman also added to the confusion.  However something about the character made me suspicious as to what gender it really was.  They should of had a guy do the voice though, its more realistic.  No matter how hard a man tries to sound like a woman, he is not going to sound like the voice we heard.

I personally like media player classic for codecs, though I have used Divx, Divx does a great job on some things but it does have some problems on older systems and with some files. I use MPC for just about everything, from playing movies to music videos. It is so compatible with everything. I wouldn't suggest any other media players…..as far as "newer" media player versions….they suck.

If you have any problems, post them and I (or anyone that wants to) can help you. Don't be shy about asking questions.  Remember no one is born knowing about this stuff, we have all had to learn it at one time or another.

Arvael: If I scanned each and every page, there'd be zero incentive to buy the book. Besides, I'm not looking to push my luck with Viz. There's a huge difference posting scans of material they won't be touching for years (yes, Viz does own rights to current chapters as far as I know) and posting scans of material that could be considered wholly belonging to and created by Viz. Additionally, being 4th in Google searches for "inuyasha manga" must piss them off greatly. You can blame that on this site's popularity (and the numerous search engine optimizations I applied ^_^). Consider what has been posted thus far to be sufficient to whet your appetite. I don't mind typing out further facts, but I think I've posted enough pages.

Arvael, there isn't any thing wrong with Windows XP, as far as being able to run movies. Yes we could all go on and on about other things about every version of windows…….but we all know this and it would be like re-living a bad dream.

If you want to play mvks' it is your choice, or if you already have subs in it. You may want to consider checking out isohunt for downloads,  specify your file type in the search and go from there. (I haven't done this myself so I do not know what kind of results you may end up with…..as far as mkvs' go). It isn't my format of choice.  I have not had problems with any subtitles before.

No one should have to be without good stuff (IMO fan subbed). Even though I also purchase the releases (depending on the series American releases do cut some of the blood and cuss words).  I do believe in supporting the releases here. Not because of the quality….that's pretty much has been said before, but because to do so continues the support of more anime making it here. As long as it sells they will keep importing it.

I would highly recommend against using VLC for mkv or anything with softsubs. It strips out all sub styling and 99% of the time, the subs will show completely wrong.

Ultrin: Considering how it takes Rumiko roughly 6 days to plan, pencil, and ink each chapter. I don't see any change of release pacing happening. I may post the two pages where she describes the process of making each chapter. It's rather interesting.

What I do find unacceptable is how Viz embodies the disjoint between speed and quality of their work. They have all the time in the world to get it right and they continue to mess things up. These people are paid. It's rather sad how a scanlators (who do this for free) can bang out a release in less than a day (not many scanlation groups even work that fast). It takes at least 45 minutes for each step: scanning, translating, and editing.

Cool (if you post the pages)

Viz needs a reality check.  They aren't doing quality work.  In fact, they mutilate everything about IY, from the constant releases to the quality and consistency.

If only they had more people like you… no, that wouldn't be right.  If only they HAD people like you, maybe it would be worth it to buy IY in English.

Anyway… DavidK, I'm getting it from a Hungarian site (since I'm too stupid to use torrent^^"), but if you would like to, you can download those Bleach episodes from here: http://yhbt.mine.nu/t/ from the 50th episode up to the latest (128 at the moment, but tomorrow, there will be 129 if I am correct… or the day after tomorrow). And if you would like to have those episodes before the 50th, then go to http://www.lunaranime.org/ , though I'm a little bit confused right now as it seems I can only find here the OVAs… hmm… dunno where they disappeared, but they were there as far as I know…ˇˇ"

VLC stripping subtitles is not so bad, MPlayer does it too if ssa/ass is not enabled. Sometimes it could be confusing if there are 2 separate dialogs, dialog and sign etc… but in some cases the default font styles are much readable :E

It took me a while to realise Jakotsu was male, too…and the Japanese VA being female didn't help. His Brazilian VA is male though (the only one as far as I've seen – not sure about any of the European VAs). I think he did a good job with that falsetto of his, but I really couldn't take the character seriously that way…it was just too funny sometimes. Which I guess isn't really that bad, considering he's not really that serious originally, either. The American VA gives me the creeps though – I think she makes Jakotsu a little too scary o.o

I'm seriously tempted to buy that thing now – and we're talking international fees here. I guess I'll think about it. I went to Amazon to look for it and the cover is the Japanese version, though; can anybody tell me if that's still the right one? Don't want to have to wait years to read it :)

Not to mention "Jan" Havoc from FMA. (poor Jean, doomed to a fandom typo name of Jan!)

I saw this book at my local Barns and Nobel, so for those of you who don't want to order online, you might have luck snagging it at a book shop in your area. I didn't buy it, but that's only because my car recently broke down, zapping me of money. ;o;

It makes zero sense to me. What is it with those guys at Viz, anyway? Can't they tell quality manga apart from crap?

Yeah, I read somewhere that when they translate scans into English they usually flip the images (Japanese read from right to left) and so maybe that's why most of the images are reversed. Still, they should be a bit consistent and not do such a sloppy job.

I sure hope the delay isn't due to another broken scanner. That last time made for a long two weeks. Oh well, it's not like the new chapter is anything urgent.

Luna: I'm not sure, but I think I read that "Intellect" in the book is a bit of a mistranslation, that a closer word would be wisdom or insight. Not sure where I read that, but if it's true then it's definitely an accurate assessment of Sessh's weak points. He's just not very good at thinking things through.

I just got the profile today at Barnes and Noble after reading about it on this site.  It's pretty good though you have to admit dated since it came out a few years ago.  I was disapointed by the fact that it predates Sesshomaru's Mom and the whole thing with Rin which proves she has become more to him than a "servant" as is stated in the profile.  the other disappointment was that the profile predates the death of Kagura which is pretty hugh as to the plot twists lately.  Oh well, it is still a great read and I am enjoying it greatly.  One thing I must say about the "Grand Master" Rumiko Takahashi. She is the master of make them beg for it and then don't give it them.  I'm sure it will be a cold day in hell before we see Sesshomaru's Mom again.  I also fear she may never really end Inuyasha.  Hell, she hasn't really ended anything else has she?  She stops but never ends. Maybe she figures she'll return to it again.

By the way I love your Pod Cast keep it up, it is very entertaining and I love this site!!

After buying and reading this book…

I have come to realize that Naraku is very emotionally immature. :X

Gaahhhhh… I sorta mentally fixed all of the typos in my head, so it made for a very good read.

And I want a Paparazzi bee… XD
