I'll be honest, I've never been the kind of person to actually buy my anime and manga… I've only done it a handful of times in my entire life. But earlier this June, I decided to buy a copy of Inuyasha Manga Profiles. Viz had over 4 years to get it right and unfortunately the quality didn't reflect any kind of effort was put into the book. I'll spare you the details but rest assured, after buying manga for the first time in years, I felt absolutely betrayed. In my opinion, the book embodied the careless attitude the Viz holds towards Inuyasha and I decided this needed to change.
I took it upon myself to call key staff at Viz, including Alvin Lu, the Editor in Chief and Vice President of Publishing. I expressed my concerns with how poorly the series was being handled and told him that fans are not turned off by the fair price Viz offers for their products, it's the quality that is lacking and the fans expect a lot better. Mr. Lu was deeply concerned that people are turning to free alternatives (ie: scanlations) and admitted that it was quite unfortunate that Inuyasha was the only series in which Viz flips the pages (he said it wasn't out of the question to release the rest of the series unflipped). Mr. Lu wants us to e-mail him and explain in detail all the things that we find annoying or wrong in Inuyasha volumes 1-30 and the profile book. Want to help? Click here!
