Good to hear it's working out for you! I personally did the exact same thing to switch over from XP, with the whole dual-boot thing for a while. Now, though, since I've been using it for so long, I've switched to Debian Linux exclusively.

Good luck with using VirtualBox. I personally prefer it myself!

Haha, see, this is where I wish I could use Nvidia, but unfortunately for me, I'm a gamer, and a few of the games I play have horrible Nvidia support (infinite loop issues that have never been resolved), so I had to go from my dual boot set-up to a strictly XP Pro computer (I refuse to install Vista; it will be a cold day in hell) because I had to switch to ATI just to play. It fucking sucks, honestly, and I miss Ubuntu (although having an internet tablet with a Linux clone on it makes up for it). Dammit, I wish ATI would get on the ball with better support for Linux.

VirtualBox definitely is worth a look. Wine wouldn't work for me, and VMWare...eh.

It's not worth buying a DX10 card right now. DX10.1 is around the corner and is pretty buggy in its own right. Your safest bet is to avoid ATI at all costs (drivers suck on Windows and are horrid on Linux) and buy Nvidia cards with OpenGL 2.1 (No ATI card on the market right now or in the immediate future will support it).

Good for you Starks. My home computer is filled with problems and glitches from windows, so I know first hand how inefficent that system is. So have fun with your new setup, for all those who suffer as you say under "the Tyranny of Windows."

Often the argument isn't necessarily which is better…but rather whether its worth it to switch from Windows to something else due to the fact that so much software is written exclusively for Windows. I for one despise Windows Vista, and refuse to use it until I am forced to use software that requires DirectX 10. I generally run things on Windows XP these days, as most of the programs I use regularly are written for it.

Well Starks, I am glad to hear how happy you are with your new setup. I have often heard people debate over which is better: Linux or Windows. Linux usual comes out to be the victor. I myself have Window Vista but it has not given me any trouble yet so I am staying with it for now. Hope your happiness sticks arond for a while.
