Response to this chapter? Erm, I'm a little horrorstruck, actually. I really do suspect Kagome's memories of her time in the Sengoku Jidai might've been taken from her – but then, what about the rest of her family? They clearly remember, so I could be mistaken. God I hope so. If everyone else save Kagome retained their memories, that'd be far too cruel to live with, just too cruel. Then again, it could probably validate my theory, that Inu's supposed to follow her and "wake her up", reawaken her memories, if you will. Other than that, I cannot even imagine what Rumiko might have hiding up her sleeve. But I have to admit, for a second there I even contemplated the horrific scenario of this developing into some kind of highschool manga, with all the characters from the feudal era as normal students in Kagome's new school and the poor girl wandering around thinking, "These people . . . They seem so familiar, somehow!" XDD Oh god, the HORROR. *cringes* lol
I get the feeling we won't be seeing much of the rest of the gang for a while, though, maybe. Sigh. *grumbles about needing her Sesshomaru fix*

NO!!! Think about this. It HAS to be a dream(her being at the highschool in her uniform). Remember what Eri said. Kagome didn't come to the High School Entrance ceremony that morning. So how could she be there, fully clothed, when she didn't go, and didn't come home to change? And like what Inuyashasama said, where's her bow?

Acutally, I think what might happen is REALLY cheesy, but it's a possibility…

Inuyasha will find Kagome somewhere in Hell, and she's unconscious(cause of the illusionary dimension), and even though he keeps calling to her, she won't wake up. So, in order to wake her up(here's the cheesy part) her kisses her.

Remember in the 2nd movie, Kagome had to kiss Inuyasha to make him go back to being a hanyou? It'd make sense for the same thing for Inuyasha to do to Kagome. In my sense, that might be what happens.

The whole reicarnated scene, I don't like it at all. But this is kinda what happened in a story called The Pheniox Blade: Time Lapse on FanFiction.net. Kagome falls into the well during the Final Battle, and the well seals behind her, leaving her and Inuyasha unable to go between time periods.

And this…how did Naraku know that Kagome wasn't of this time? He's never seen her go through the well, and from what I know, only Inuyasha and the gang know Kagome lives 500 years into the future. So how did the well disappear by a wish Naraku made, when he doesn't even know what the bone-eaters well is for? When did it happen that he knew Kagome could travel between the two worlds.

And possibly like when she was in that illusion with Kikyou, the jewel is testing her. Testing her to see if she has a weak heart, and that the illusionary realm can make her believe it all never happened, and she would be stuck there forever. But if she shows she tries to get back, the Jewel will allow that, knowing that Kagome could not forget her adventures so easily.

But hey, these are just my theories. One will never know what Rumiko has up her sleeve, and no one ever will.

You have forgotten an important scene : In Animation, the chapter 60th with Tsubaki Curo-Miko… at the beginning of this story, Naraku speaks with Tsubaki, and so she waited Kagome not so far from the Well when Kagome appears…! So, Tsubaki uses her poisonus snake !

Don't forget that Naraku has a big knowledge in the story !!!

To kinda add on to what Yamahato Yokimoko and KagomePass were talking about… Naraku knowing about Kagome's time and her ability to travel back and forth between the two… the jewel knows about the well and Kagome's own time… part of it passed back and forth with her several times. So, if the jewel is alive, and it is also part of Naraku… it might be correct to assume that Naraku now knows. Dunno… just a thought.

Hmmm it appears Kagome and Inuyasha are in quite a pickle.

My theory is that when Inuyasha thinks of the Shikon No Tama and how it wouldn't let Kagome go on in peace that Naraku, the jewel and Kagome are all in hell, which was Naraku's last wish. See Naraku mentions earlier that he really wanted Kikyo and where he was going (my guess hell) is where Kikyo probably wouldn't be going. So his wish on the jewel was that when he died, Kikyo's soul would be sent to hell with him (i.e., Kagome!)

So I agree on most terms with Yamahato Yokimoko that this might be Kagome's illusionary world in hell, continued in the next chapter, that Inuyasha will either have to go find Kagome in hell OR (plot twist) find Naraku in hell to tell him how to get to Kagome. (dun dun dun)

Yeah. I kinda like the latter: Inuyasha vs. Naraku in hell for Kagome. RT would definitely do something dramatic like that just to really end it with a bang. Kinda hoping she does.

Rumiko HAS to write something like that. It just ends the manga a little better…but I still don't want it to end!!!! I bet if Inuyasha and Kagome kiss, I'll look at that chapter EVERY DAMN DAY!

This is my first time posting, so thanks to everyone who works so hard to post these chapters every week.

 I don't think that this will end up as a dream sequence.  The rest of the yasha gang left behind still have all their memories and their timeline is continuing (nothing reset).  Likewise, Kagome's friends and family are all wondering where Kagome is and they can see that the bone-eater's well is gone; it's not like they think the well was never there.

 It's possible that Kagome is in front of her high school  (memory either intact or not) but I think it's more likely that she is in another world -kind of like when Tsubaki cursed her- except this time it's not just in her mind.  If so, it will be interesting to see if Kagome is aware of it or not, and how she and Inuyasha will defeat/destroy the shikon no tama once and for all.

So, Kagomé and Kikyo are the same person, but only in one future, this is because (for an accident) the Shkon no tama was on Kagomé's body when Kikyo died…

Naraku knows at that point, so he sent Kagomé into the MEIDOU to find Kikyo (but her soul at this area !!) again !

Hey! This is my first post, and I've been reading for about a year now!

Just to voice my opinion, and this is just my opinion, but:

1) I think it's safe to say that Rumiko will not be ending with Volume 56, as expressed by other fans. Just as a guess, I'd say we can count on Volume 57 (maybe I'm too partial to odd numbers?) being our last. I can't imagine, as much as I'd like her to do this, Rumiko devoting a whole book to the epilogue. My guess is that the end of this book will mostly be devoted to learning about Kagome's current state, Inuyasha's trying to find her, seeing just how strong their bond is, and possibly, learning exactly what the true final battle will be. I can't imagine that after all this trouble, RT would just end it with Volume 56, and a scrawny battle. Hell, if I'd been working on this saga for 11+ years, I'd want it to go out with a bang! It is probably her longest manga (I think?), so she has definitely put a lot of thought into the ending. Partial to causing me a slight identity crisis, I have faith in her, and her ability to please fans.

2) I do not believe Kagome is in a 'dream' or that any of the past 553 chapters were just the result of a concussion from hitting the bottom of the well. (And it makes me sick to my stomach to contemplate Rumiko reincarnating everyone ~shiver~). My theory is that Kagome is in hell; not necessarily with Naraku, but with the Shikon Jewel. The image of Kagome covered in spider webs, or something to that extent of bondage comes to mind, like in that chapter with Mount Azusa…that was creepy. I think that the Shikon Jewel, having still inside of it the battling Midoriko and the demon (which is very similar to another priestess and Naraku…), is trying to make Kagome suffer. It obviously hates Inuyasha with a passion, as it's tried to take both of the women he loves away from him, and mostly succeeded. I think perhaps that Naraku was jealous of Inuyasha, as well, which I'm sure the damn jewel fed off of, when Kagome came to their world. I'm sure he contemplated whether it was fair that his loathed enemy, whom he had worked so hard to dispose of, got another chance at happiness with Kikyo's reincarnation. He hates companionship, so I think it's safe to say that the jewel is similar in that aspect. (I'm also a bit of dork…as I like to think that Kagome might actually be the reincarnation of Midoriko, as opposed to Kikyo). This could play in who wins the final battle. In the end, I believe that Inuyasha's fearlessness and will to save the woman he loves will provide an immense amount of soul power (dumb term, sorry.) to aid Kagome's in the final battle. I also believe that in addition to his voice calling to her, this will of his is what will save her. She's no weakling, and while I don't think she's forgotten the feudal era, I believe that she may have doubts while in her Jewel manipulated state. But, it might be Kagome's turn to flash back, and remember the heart melting look Inuyasha gave her as he held her hand and promised to protect her. I have no doubt he will be the cause of her reawakening. I believe Midoriko will also give Kagome strength and aid in the final battle, as Rumiko expressed in the Inuyasha Profiles Book that in the end Kagome is probably stronger than Kikyo. In order to fulfill this statement, the girl from the future will most likely change greatly in the final battle. I'm not sure we'll see Naraku at the end though…she's probably tired of drawing our favorite bastard.

One last thing (sorry about this ridiculously long message):

In the end of the story, I do not think that the real wish to be made on the jewel will be for Inuyasha to become human. The strongest theme in Inuyasha, from my perspective is learning how to accept yourself and learn to love who you are. I think that's why this manga is beloved; because at some point or another, Inuyasha has been a channel for our doubts: I'm not good enough, I'm so ugly, I wish I were this…- we are just like him! That gives us a common bond, and I don't know about you all, but when I read this beautiful story every week, and watch the episodes multiple times, I feel as though I've been uplifted somehow. As though by watching him fight not only his external battle, but also his constant internal battle, I have been given new strength to accept who I am. "If Inuyasha can do it, then so can I!" This is a consistent theme of Takahashi's predominantly in this manga series, but also throughout her others. Ranma has…kind of accepted himself as being a boy sometimes and a girl other times. Inuyasha embodies the theme: "just be yourself, and you will find what you are looking for." I find it hard to believe that Rumiko would throw that beautiful message away at the very end. No one does it quite like her, and these characters show the world who she is as an artist, and a human. That, in my opinion, is what makes her characters so lovable, because in accepting and loving them, we are also accepting her. I'm proud to be a Takahashi fan!

Who knows what the final wish will be. I can't think of one, so let's do a little thinking, but in the end, Takahashi's the one with the yoke on her shoulders, and she's pulled the cart along this far!

All I wish for in the series is for Inuyasha and Kagome to kiss at least once, or tell each other how they feel (though I think the former is a more realistic expectation), and for Miroku and Sango's wedding to be placed in the next book, provided there is one. I've thought that maybe that would be a good place to end it: after Miroku and Sango's wedding, where beneath the Goshinboku, Inuyasha and Kagome get off their chests what we've been dying to take off for the past eleven years through fanfiction, fanart, AMVs, and our own, sometimes twisted imaginations.

So, as hard as it is to wait, sit back, relax, get a tan, and just thank whatever god or spirits you believe in for blessing the world with a modern muse like the amazing Rumiko Takahashi.

Thanks for your time, and your eye-sight, and may all that you've enjoyed in the series continue in your heart for decades to come.

Well, how about this one? What if it's NOT a dream, actually? What if Naraku's most desired revenge was to make it so InuYasha and Kagome could never see eachother again – hence the destruction of the well on both sides of time. But, he did not take into account the extent of Inuyasha's love for the girl, or hers for him. To get to her, the boy's actually THROWN himself into the Meidou! Perhaps he'll even forge a path through time and space to get to her era again, journeying through the Meidou. It could even take him years to get through there. So in the end, InuYasha will end up staying with Kagome in her era, not Kagome staying with him in his, as alot of us have thought. Wow, you guys are really excited about this kiss between inuyasha and kagome. I just dont think Kagome and Inuyasha should EVER kiss. I mean it'll just ruin it for me.

 I still stick by the thought that after everything is done Kagome will meet Inuyasha's equivalent in the modern era as well as Sango and Miroku and just reunite with their 'spirits' in the present. There is NO WAY she'll stay in his era or him in hers. I think thats just immature way to end things for Rumiko Sensei and she is better than that.

The series will NOT end with the "it was all a dream" sequence.  Think about it.  In the first chapter of the manga, who is the first character we see?  It's InuYasha.  If this was all a dream we would have first been introduced to Kagome, who would have met InuYasha without us knowing who he is.

 And I am TOTALLY down for the InuYasha-Naraku battle in hell.

i really really really REALLY  hope that Takahashi-sensei does not even have that sort of thoughts even passing through her head.  besides there has been a lot of situation where they have woken up from illusions without a kiss needed.

my guesses-slash-hopes of the continuing of the story

- as for the "it was all a dream" one. if, she does that, i would jump into the meidou myself. i do believe that is unlikely to happen.

- she looks older at normal rate. but not like kikyo, by any means.

- the story will continue but not like an epilogue. i actually believe from this chapter on, the mind riddling and the story will be most interesting, since she rapping up the whole time travel.

now, naraku is not the main character in the story, it's inuyasha and kagome. the main plot is the shikon no tama and what it will happen to it. after all, it took 9 volumes for naraku to first appear.

-i believe that we might meet naraku's reincarnation (and even inuyasha's reincarnation (according to almost every fanfic, ranma saotome…. hahahaha)). i also believe that human inuyasha will appear for quite a while, or at least it will be ncluded and a good part of the story.

i agree with HEARTOFGOSHIBOKU and the concept of "accept yourself" in the story. so, i believe he will end up as a hanyou and kagome as human.

naraku knew well that the wish will me granted after he died. all the wanted was kikyo's heart…. what else than to catch up in kikyo's reincarnation's era?

i really hope that the end is something like "fire tripper" or "mount azusa (this is the best arc i've been of the whole story)", or that kind of conclusion and mixing up time and characters big time. i know that the end will be with a "wow" i do have faith in her, she is for a reason the only mangaka that i read and one of the few persons that i admire, after all. and with that wow, it not necessarily must be with a kiss.

- it would definitely be nice to have that kiss… but i don't want to expect that much, just a good ending. and as far as the stories that i have read of her (ranma, inuyasha, rumic world and theatre). the kiss will be unlikely to happen.

then again, in an interview of the 500 episodes, i believe, she mentioned that she does not want to end it without a concrete ending like ranma's. i hope that happens.

it will be a battle directly with the shikon no tama and inuyasha will wish to be human to eventually defeat the jewel and kagome will somehow be involved and if they don't kiss i will track little miss mangaka down!!!

kikyo was dead too, and she remained in the story for 33 complete volumes.

death is not a limit for takahashi-sensei!  in some way naraku will influence until the end of the story, and he did in the begging regardless if we didn't know he existed.

First, I doubt this will end up being just a dream.  RT is coming up with some interesting ideas but I think most of us are ready for closure.  Rumiko Takahashi's imagination is fertile enough to keep Inuyasha going for another ten years but should she?  I don't think so, I think if she keeps extending things there is a danger many of us could begin to lose interest.  I for one hope she ties things up soon.
