Hold on, I'm confused here. So . . . So her FAMILY remember, but KAGOME can't? In the last chap, Souta was worried about her not having come home yet from Inu-nii-chan's era, then they were all spazzing that the well vanished – even Kagome's FRIENDS were there to witness it! And now suddenly Kagome's attending school, being "normal", dating Hojo? Err . . . Discrepancy there, or is it just me?

And moving on to our second WTF Moment [Proudly Brought to You Courtesy of Takahashi-Sensei!] – "Kagome is restored to the real present day.  At the shrine of the vanished well, Kagome is invisible to her family." Soooooo . . . Kagome restored to the Real Present Day . . . as a GHOST?? *this is the sound of my brain exploding*

WHAAAAAAAAAT??? Is that metaphorically speaking, or what? Why can't they see her? If they can't see her, if she's some sort of ghost/apparition/thing HOW did she just have a perfectly normal school day with tennis-related-merriment and koibito Hojo *gag*??

Okay, this reeks of Shikon-related EBIL. Either she's stuck in limbo, or some kind of parallel universe, or the How-Things-Could-Have-Been dimension, or her memories of Inu and the Sengoku Shenanigans have been taken from her, SOMETHING is horribly, terribly wrong here. And maybe it's terribly soft of me, but I have NEVER been able to envision this series with an ending that wasn't at least a little bit heartwarming. I just can't see it. Is RT really going for the angst-ridden ending?

Could that be the Shikon Jewel speaking? InuYasha said that it would not let Kagome live in peace… so could it be creating this false reality? The jewel could be trying to, in essence, brainwash her. Make her forget… or make her choose, but whatever it is that it makes her do, it's not real. It's captured her and this "reality" might be it's way of containing her… convincing her that this false reality is real… keeping her from trying to escape (why would Kagome try to escape if she thinks it's real?)

I'm convinced she's still in hell and we are far from this being over. There are too many ends that still need to be tied off.

see I just dont see her not having sesshoumaru come full circle. I mean one of the main side plots of this whole series was him hating inuyasha for father leaving the sword to him and him wanting it. And Very slowly but surely we have seen him change his outlook on every point of view he has had. I just want to see him save inuyasha and actually show that he doesnt hate him and want him dead. 

Well maybe its just me cuz ima sesshoumaru freak. I just dont see her not resolving the whole brothers fighting issue it was such a big part and sesshoumaru is the only one who has had experience inside the meidou.

And know he understands what inuyasha feels for kagome cuz he now cares for rin.  When inuyasha jumped into the meidou look at sesshoumaru he is fuckin shocked . he will go after him.

OK, I just had to get in on this thread which is on one hand a grat deal like a wailing wall and on the other rather funny.  Me, so far, all my predictions have come true for this story.

 Having spent an inordinate amount of time studying some of the most minute details of the whole InuYasha epic, I find it continually mystifying why people hate Hojo and Kikyo so much.  I mean, Hojo has done nothing but care for Kagome in ways many boyfriends utterly FAIL.  He paid attention to what her needs might be and tried to find ways to help.  He may have missed the mark with things like a whole pumpkin, but at least he tries.  And this after she stood him up so rudely on more than one occasion.  How could you not feel sorry for such a nice guy being left to wait outside a movie theater for a girl who will never show.  Not a good way to make friends and influence people I must say.

 As for poor Kikyo, well my heart breaks for her.  Gentle and giving as a priestess and then tortured and killed by the very invalid she'd so selflessly cared for.  Once dead, she's dragged back to life against her will by Urasue and forced to face the rage and hate she'd taken with her to the grave.  She found it near impossible to overcome her last living feelings but eventually did so in order to set up her own plans to bring Naraku down.  Those plans necessitated distancing herself from the man she'd once loved since she knew that in living death, she had no hope of a life with him.  Her only fulfillment in death could be achieved if she managed to obliterated Naraku, something she would not survive to see.  The last few scenes between InuYasha and Kikyo were so melancholy and tender that I (I'm in my 50's and pretty damned crusty about such things…) yes, I cried in sympathy for the two of them.  Seeing a true love between the beauty and the beast destroyed so utterly was  heart wrenching.  In the end, it was clear that they really did still love each other.

 Now as for Kagome, for me, she's the anti-heroine.  She's been selfish, petulant, untrusting, and abusive to InuYasha, and yet she expects him to be more to her than a protector.  Urg.  I'm surprised he stuck it out this long, as irritable and impatient as he is.  I would not have been surprised if he finally got fed up with her and decided to go off on his own the next time she used that (way-overused) osuwari on him even when he'd been truthful to her.  I would be very happy indeed if she finally quit mooning over InuYasha and  finally make some intelligent decisions regarding the men in her life.

 How is the story going to end?  Oh, I suppose InuYasha will end the story having sacrificed his demon side in order to "save" Kagome yet again, even if it's from herself.  I thoroughly hope that he dowsn't knuckle under and give up all the strength and power he's spent his entire life to gain, not to mention his birth identity as a half-youkai and his connection to both his human mother and his youkai father.  He gives up his ability to heal in 3 or so days, his keen nose, the cool ears, fangs and claws, and his speed and agility.  Now, just when he's coming into his own as a force to be reckoned with.  He would be miserable being busted down to kindergarten levels haing to learn to read and write and OMG wear shoes and maybe even underwear!  Kagome would become a tiresome protector to someone who was so used to doing things his own way. 

And if she goes to the past, she'd have to give up all she's worked for to live in a time with no shampoo, no running water, no shops, and no Mama making meals.  She would have to take on the life of a woman in that time which any historian could tell you was not at all a bed of roses.  Whether InuYasha was human  or youkai, if she lived in the Muromachi period, her life would be hard to say the least.

 This them makes me believe that Takahashi might have something very convoluted up her sleeve, since she has to wrap up all the storylines she's created with all of her characters.   I think only Sango and Miroku are pretty clear cut from here.  And, I would not be surprised if the series goes on for many more chapters as she goes about stitching things up.  She could even concieveably make it to Chapter 600 in order to cap it all off with a personal best. 

 I was pretty messed up when I found out the series was ending since InuYasha is responsible for my being able to go back to doing art again.  I was a professional artist, but I got pretty burned out doing every fanboy's dream squeeze or character in between gigs.  Six years had passed and I'd had no urge to do more than sketch until InuYasha caught my eye.  Then it was like a dam burst and I've been drawing like a mad woman ever since.  That was nearly three years ago and I have sketchbooks filled with pictures of InuYasha as I learned to draw him.  At first I did him anime style, but I do things more realistically so I've spent far more time drawing him as I envision him as a real persion.  Happily, he will always have a place in my heart and home now so I will never have to be without him somewhere under my pencil.  Takahashi can now end her story and I don't have to do without.  I even took up sculpting and hope to do some works in both porcelain and bronze.  Might even do a statue of him someday.  That's something I haven't seen anyone do yet for anime characters…. 

 Thanks to InuYasha, I'm back as an artist doing better work than I've ever done with my creativity goosed as it hasn't been in years.  Thanks InuYasha!  *warm hug*

 Enough of my aimless late light ramblings.  I may not alway post but I am always watching and reading.  Thanks Starks and all the rest who are AdInuYasha affiliated, for working so hard, putting up with so much, and being there to fill such an important need!  I respect you all!  G'nite.

Inugesshoku, you are wrong about Kagome. She's not selfish ignorant. She
always help everyone no matter what. She saved started from poltergeist issue,
she prolonged Kikyo's life many times, she saved Hitomiko's soul. She wouldn't
shoot Inuyasha if she was in Kikyo situation, which we see in the chapter 'Arrow
of shouki' when Naraku suggested to shoot him and safe her own life. But she
didn't do that cause 1- she loves him, and she wouldn’t dare to hurt him,
because she know him from a long time and know by how many hardships he went
trough. Another thing she's clever immediately she figured out about his
situation ‘Naraku’s Wish’ ‘Byakuya’s blade’. She’s got a strong heart and will
(she didn’t let Akago mess in her soul, when with Kagura he tries to make from
her another subordinate), and she is brave more than other average schoolgirl.
But the whole time she made a giant progress, and I wouldn’t be surprised if
she’d end up stronger then Kikyo was. Kagome knew about bond between Kikyo and
Inuyasha she understand that by all her mind, but because she loves Inu also
she is depressed. It’s natural. Kagome id full of life, she always keep
smiling, she can laugh, she cares about everyone, and want to help in any
possible for her way.

And about Kikyo… Well she’s not ideal you know. I have some kind of
respect for her but I don’t like her. She’s cold and sometimes strange. That
wonderful Kikyo killed monks who tried to send her ‘to place where she belongs’,
and cut her suffering. She tried to kill Kagome while taking the jewel. And when
Inuyasha went, she said it was something to deal with Naraku. Kagome knew she
was lying but she couldn’t say it loudly because it would looked like she was making it up.  She didn’t thank her when she purified
miasmia which was inflicted by Naraku at Hakureizan(her proud didn’t let her?).  And she didn’t care for her when she met
Tsubaki, she said it clearly. And by the whole time she kept saying that ’Kagome
you are me’. While everyone (with Inuyasha in the first place) sees great differences
between them. But in the end it looked like Kikyo finally trusted Kagome, and
saved Kohaku’s life, so she’s not that arrogant.

So I can also say you’re
no different from people who keeps saying Hojo and Kikyo are bad!(btw. I also
like Hojo, so it somehow distracts me too). It seems like you found for yourself
favorite character and see only thing that you want to see.  It’s really sad thing.

mention this was somehow rude of you… Inuyasha was THE FIRST ONE who started
to get closer to Kagome, in many small ways, like take her hand and say  ,,don’t  go” after battle with Thunder Brothers, ‘You
smell nice’ while she was a human resting after getting poisoned. After the fight
with Sesshomaru when Kagome somehow get in the way trying to shoot of
Sesshomaru’s arm off, It was Inuyasha who hugged (!)her, and said about his
fears, the same after Kohaku tried to kill Kagome. After the issue when Kagome
was poisoned by Kikyo barrier and then kiss Inu in front of her, Inuyasha was waked
up by her (Kagome) voice,  and rushed to
her. After that he told her that about his feelings (It was that he see Kagome
not as Kikyo’s reincarnation but totally different person, and he like her ,
and feel relieved while she’s with him, and that she must be also with Kikyo
cause he have some kind of debt to her) but unfortunately Kagome was too tired
and fallen asleep.

Clearly, you are a very dedicated fan of the manga, and you seem like the kind of person who sees each character as worthy and important in their own right, but I think you're being a bit closed-minded, I have to say.

I really can't say I know anyone who hates Hojo. He's a very sweet boy, and he's never done anything wrong. We just prefer Inuyasha, the Titular character, who's actually built a relationship with Kagome, who has a valid claim as "the love interest". We don't dislike the boy himself, we dislike Hojo usurping the position Inuyasha is meant to have.

And like June, I think you've sort of idealized Kikyo and demonized Kagome – even if you haven't meant to. Really, I don't know that many people who genuinely hate Kikyo, either – not among my friends at least. Neither she or Kagome are perfect, but I personally believe Kagome is a braver and more rounded person than her previous incarnation – which is fitting, seeing as that's what reincarnation is supposed to be for, becoming stronger through each lifetime.

Kikyo may have been a victim, arguably the first, of Naraku's evil, but she was also a victim of a certain selfishness of her own. She wanted Inuyasha to undo himself, to become human if he wanted to be with her, as though her position as a priestess put her above loving a demon – she was incapable of loving him completely. Of all the thing's she's done, what made me believe she wasn't as strong as Kagome was her shock when Kagome saved her – which indicates, had their positions been reversed, Kikyo might not have done the same thing.

This does not mean I don't like her. It was both harrowing and fascinating to watch her story unfold. Her second life was both a curse and a blessing, I think. She learned the truth about her death, that Inuyasha was a victim just like her, finally put the anger she carried to her grave to rest, and had the chance to learn and grow that had been taken from her when her life was so tragically cut short. In life, she seemed to have seen the world as split into shades of black and white, evil and good; in being resurrected, and having to live as a "demon" for a while, she learned that the world is far more complicated than that; she came to see the gray areas. By the time Kohaku had joined her company, I think Kikyo had finally managed to become a properly rounded person. In fact, I think this "second life" may even be partially responsible for her modern-day incarnation's strength.

Kagome, in my eyes, represents Kikyo's second chance in a way. Kagome has the spiritual strength, but none of Kikyo's prejudice and restrictions. You might see Kagome as immature; I see Kagome as having the freedom to be immature. Kikyo was forced to grow up too quickly, I think – but how else are you supposed to learn how to be truly mature if you can't make your mistakes and learn from them? Kagome is able to love freely, is not restricted by her position, and has never been afraid to love Inuyasha because of what he is. Kikyo wished to be able to learn a normal life and love freely as a normal woman – and perhaps, through Kagome, she's gotten that wish after all.

Also, and silly and irrelevant as it is, I think Kikyo and Suikotsu may have been the perfect couple. XD They're both "pure" but tormented souls, if you see what I mean . . . And they looked cute together [I'm referring to "doctor" Suikotsu, of course, not Homicidal Maniac Suikotsu] XD Too bad she was a zombie and he was a schizo. Oh well . . .

You know what peeves me? I truly don't see how Kagome has to choose between the modern and feudal era's. If the well comes back, she can just live in both. She's managed with school up until now, so I don't see the problem… That is assuming, however, both Inuyasha and Kagome make it out alive and the well reappears.

Chapter 554: Koukou seikatsu :

" As Kagome wanders into her high school, her friends call out to her and ask her to go shopping. At a restaurant, the girls discuss various boys, and one of them remarks that Kagome saw the boy she was thinking about dating at the recent entrance ceremony. Kagome is slightly confused, since she was in the feudal era during the ceremony, yet seems to take what they tell her at face value. That night at her house, Kagome seems well-adjusted, and as if she's never travelled to the past. Kagome's mother asks her what club she is planning to join at school, and Kagome responds she'll be signing up for the tennis club. The next day while jogging, Kagome notices the archery club firing arrows and seems to remember something. Once she gets home, she notices a shed where the Bone Eater's Well once stood, and asks Sota if there was one something else in its place. After discussing it with her family, the others convince Kagome that nothing like that has ever existed. Sitting alone in her room, Kagome gets a text message from Hojo inviting her to go see a movie. The next day after school, Kagome's friends interrogate her about her day out with Hojo. Kagome insists that they're just friends, but the girls know Hojo has feelings for Kagome and ask her if the reason she refuses to get serious with Hojo is because she already has someone she likes. Kagome ponders it for a moment, but says no. Walking home alone, Kagome passes the Goshinboku Tree and notices the scar on the tree is missing. She ponders what could have caused the gash in the wood that should be there she suddenly remembers Inuyasha. Her memories flood back, and she remembers that the Shikon Jewel will vanish from the world when its owner makes the proper wish on it. Now Kagome is back in the modern era, unclouded by the fake world that was shown to her, and she rushes into the shrine where she sees her family investigating the vanished well. Kagome quickly realizes that no one can see her, as the discuss how she has not attended high school since the new term started. Suddenly the world disappears and Kagome finds herself in her old junior high uniform with her bow trapped inside an empty black void. Suddenly the Shikon Jewel with her arrows piercing it appears and tells her it has sealed the well, trapping her there. "

About the last answer of the chapter 554th, so now you know that the shikon no tama wants really to prevent Kagomé to return in her world… Bu it's not so easily to purify the ball, is it ?!!!… Kikyo uses it for the beginning before Naraku's coming, and she didn't arrive at all to keep the shikon no tama "cleared" !

So, how can she do, Kagomé ? Her bow is locked into space and time !

It's obviously that Inuyasha is necessary for that ! Hojo's Ancestor ?  .

But there is one thing I don't understand about all that :

Naraku fighting Kikyo (novel 47th), and Naraku fighting INuyasha, Kagomé, Sesshomaru (Animation chapters 156-157) – with THREE attacks ! – : It was very difficult to strike or to try killing him… but….

but…

With the complete CORRUPTED shikon no tama in his hand… it was so easy to purify it and KIll Naraku ?????? I'm disappointed…  !!!!!

Okay – I may be grasping at straws, or the delerium of waiting for the chapter has taken over…but what are your thoughts on this…

- Naraku said this was to be a battle of souls

- When Kagome was under the curse and suddenly found herself in the current era, she wasn't invisible then to her family.

What if her soul was stripped from her. If Naraku's wish was for their souls to be together. The fact that the well is gone, and the mark on the tree from where Inuyasha was found could indicate that they're not in the past nor the present. A place that was created, that has no evidence of Inyuasha, because it exists only for spirits. Naraku chose her time because it would be a place that she could convievably return to a "normal" life. Its not a castle that she needs to be rescued from, or a dungeon she's locked in. Naraku could be residing as Hojo, having the "life" that he always wanted with the woman he loved.

It could explain why Inuyasha could not follow, his soul would have to find Kagome so to speak if he were going to get her back.

Wow! I just read the chapter. I skipped lunch to see if it'd come out yet. haha I hope the next chapter involves IY. Maybe Inuyasha and Kagome will meet up in the weird realm she's in with the shikon no tama?

Kagome Pass: It really depends if Rumiko wants to have that "battle of the souls" between Kagome, Inuyasha, Naraku, and the sacred jewel. If Takahashi wants to wrap it up more quickly(she most likely won't), she could end it with this volume. But I like the idea of a 57th…

6 chapters left to end 56th volume. I think it's possible to finish manga at 57. But it don't have to. I still have Ranma's ending before my eyes. I know Inuyasha is different, but it's really up to Rumiko if she want to give us short ending, or some developed one, which would show us how main character ends up. 

But I'm still suspicious about 'which world Kagome will chose'? To live with her family and classmates, where would she start again with her studies not disturbed by her miko duty, or in Sengoku Jidai where would she use all experience which she gained while she was with Inuyasha, and keep progressing as priestess, with her friend- Miroku, Sango, Kohaku and Shippou. [?]

I think Kagome has way stronger bond between monk, exterminator etc, than with her class friends. But on the other hand we have her family and school. Kagome which world do you prefer?

I won't create any abstract theory, I'll wait for ending. But it's still intriguing. xP.

I'm doubting the series will end in this volume, or at least I hope it won't, there are still too many pieces to the puzzle that haven't yet been placed.  I would even be satisfied with the final volume just wrapping everything up by covering life after Naraku and the quest for jewel.  Just as long as we don't get another Naraku battle that lasts for chapters in the double digits.

As far as Kogame being stuck in this alternate state of existence, I'm thinking the Sacred Tree will somehow play a part in her returning, since the shikon no tama is working against her.  Either that, or she'll find some way of purifying the jewel.  The coming chapters will be interesting nonetheless.
