Easily six chapters left. Realistically, though, Takahashi must have been constructing an ending in her mind for some time and she would like it to come out just right. I would rather wait for the right ending than read a rushed, botched ending. Just like you relish the last bite of your meal I'd like to savor the ending to this epic storyline. Cheers Starks

So… lame this ending twist!
Since when has a manga like Inu Yasha turned philosophical (and possibly psychological)??? Of course, there is nothing essentially wrong with the idea of alternate realities – it is just… inappropriate for such a fanservice work like Inu Yasha! Out of nowhere, another layer of sci-fi existence comes into action, after a good 500 chapters of yokai comedy!
Rumiko Takahashi is an adept mangaka for supernatural subjects (especially good with Mermaid Saga) and light comedies; but exploiting sci-fi story devices would probably just defame her even more than this much-prolonged Sengoku Jidai story has done…

Beware, I'm still stuck in wailing fangirl reaction here:
A-hekh-hem . . .
Ho-leeee CRAP!! D8 This CHAPTER!!!
It validated two things for me.
The first half of the chapter, validated that life without InuYasha would be MIND NUMBINGLY DULL. DX
The second half validated that, YES, KAGOME, *makes swishy arm movements* IT WAS ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL A DREEEEEEEEEEEAM . . . slash illusion, slash . . . alternative universe, slash . . . thingie. ¬_¬ Whatever. IT WASN'T REAL!! *cries for joy* Oh, I knew she wouldn't forget Inuyasha!
Is the Shikon Jewel really actually talking to her at the end?? It SPEAKS now? Huh . . . Can't wait to see who'll voice it when [or if] the anime resumes. For now, I'll just entertain myself by giving it Darth Vader's voice. =D
I'm actually really scared for Kagome, but I can't wait to see what happens. C'MON INU!! You gotta save your girl, man!
I DEFINITELY think the outcome is tied with [or was hinted at] that chapter which Kagome was narrating a while ago. She mentioned having never expected that she might not have a choice as to which side of the well she ends up on, she was actually speaking in the past tense, and it was the first time we'd ever heard her say something like that. I believe it was shortly after the Sessmom/Rin's Second Revival arc. Maybe at the beginning of the Hitomiko or Magatsuhi Arc.
Now all I need to make me happy is a "Meanwhile, Back With the Inu-Tachi . . ." chapter. Or well, "Inu-Tachi and Sessh-Tachi." Or are they all the one group now . . . ? Hmmm. I'm not too sure Sesshomaru'd stand for that. Don't think he settle for anything less than Leader of the Pack position, personally . . . Ummmm, maybe it's more of a group-liasion. Yeah. Let's call it the Tachi-Tachi. XD Ahaha. Okay, end rant. =D
P.S. @Ipsen,
I think I disagree. One of the staple features of the series was a well through which the two main characters travel back and forth through time in. That's sci-fi. Rumiko hasn't just suddenly thrown that element into the story, it's always been there, and it's always had the potential to develop into more. The psychological stuff has always been there as well. It's Naraku's main tactic, isn't it? Some of the stuff he's done actually been quite harrowing to watch, in particular what he did to Sango and Kohaku, not to mention Kikyo and Inuyasha. He attacked Kikyo to twist her feelings for the hanyou into anger and vengeance, wanting her to kill him, but she didn't quite follow through, and hence the story began. That psychological manipulation was the basis of the Inuyasha series. And it's never really been a light comedy in the tone of Ranma, the comedy here was used to balance out the dark content of the series.

@LittleFoxglove:
- Time-traveling is not necessarily sci-fi. In Inu Yasha, it is magic, not science, that facilitates time-travel.
- In all mythologies and magical worlds, there have never been spatial and/or temporal discontinuities/singularities, i.e. supra-set of alternate realities. These only started when space and time started to be analytically conceptualised by science. Because current technological levels have yet to be able to create/control these singularities, and people only talk about them in fictions, hence the classification of alternate realities as sci-fi.
- As in psychological-ness of the story, I am afraid to say that everything that Naraku had done is pretty typical of shonen manga: villains use their heads a bit more than just brute force to wreak havoc; other characters just accept such mischief as given, grind their teeth and vow to take revenge. But getting to this level, making a character essentially question their existence/memory as physical or virtual henceforth affecting their mood is really things of psychological genre.
But who knows, such speculations of mine may be totally busted by Rumiko Takahashi in the next chapter with some cheesy 'mainstream' plots.

This chapter was no alternate reality it was just the Shikon no Tama playing with Kagome's mind. I must say that the Jewel having a mind and voice of it's own is a interesting concept. It has taken kagome into some kind of Mediou and is playing with her mind. I am wondering why the Shikon no Tama is doing this to Kagome. Is this the last with of Naraku and/or the Jewel's wish. I can't wait to read the next chapter to see what the answers are to these questions.
Kagome is in danger, so hurry InuYasha, "GO GET YOUR GIRL!"

@Ipsen,
I think you might have taken me a little too literally when I mentioned "alternate universe" in my comment. What I meant wasn't an actual alternate reality, I was referring to an illusion – as in what she was seeing wasn't real. ^_^ Apologies for any confusion. I'd just read the chapter and was still spazzing over it.
I see what you mean about time-travelling not necessarily being sci-fi, but my point of view was sort of like this: the concept of events in the past altering the present. To me, the mindset that can formulate this kind of possibility is distinctly modern; scientific. It doesn't paticularly strike me as something the feudal era mindset would come up with. But you're probably right in any case. I haven't studied science fiction as a concept, nor have I thought on it much before.
Same thing with the psychological bit. I'm not a huge manga fan – I've probably only completed 7 or 8 series, and I can't say I'm paticularly genre-inclined, so I'm not much of a shonen or shojo expert. The series' I've read alongside Inuyasha are quite a bit different, none have the ebil genius character we find in Naraku, who in my eyes bears more of a resemblance to the evil evil villains in western animation. But what seemed to make him different from these guys to me was that he's a hell of a lot more twisted, and a hell of a lot smarter in that he uses psychological manipulations. I'd never come across a character like his before in my [somewhat meagre, I admit] repertoire, you see. But I wasn't just referring to Naraku when I meant psychological. What about Suikotsu? His multiple personalities and the struggle about which was the "real" him, that's another example.
Okay, so maybe I'm seriously over-analyzing something that's just a comic, but hell, I love getting into these kind of conversations. XD Cheers, Ipsen.

Personaly, I think, yes, that MAYBE it is Naraku's voice into the Shikon no tama, actually !!!! That's what he wanted : The battle of souls ! And his wish was grnted, because the jewel and Kagomé are trapped together into space and this Meidou !!!
Maybe, if she wants to escape, she has to :
- Answer difficult questions (mind),
- To choose about her future (and fate),
- To call (perhaps) to Inuyasha,
- And Inuyasha has to choose to become human being…
- And Kagomé to take off the arrow which " trapped " actually the Jewel….
To be continued !!!!!!!

omg that first part is the single most genius thing I have ever heard. Well that might be pushing it. But wouldnt that be crazy. and it would kinda make some sense of what is going on here if naraku and kagome are the good and evil souls battling for supremecy inside the jewel. Cuz not only would that have been the jewel's wish to regains the souls it lost but it would also kinda grant naraku's wish of having kikyo. Because he would be trapped in there with kagome/kikyo.
But I think the only answer that would make sense to free kagome would be that inuyasha has to make a wish that is pure of heart / becoming a human to be with kagome. and that would fully purify the jewel which would release kagome. And ultimatly kill naraku's evil presence/ soul in the jewel.
I mean this whole story has been about inuyasha wanting the jewel can rumiko actually end it any other way. That doesnt include inuyasha finally getting his hands on the jewel and finally (10 years later) making a wish on it. Cmon that is what this whole shabang has been about. He is he only logically one to make a wish to end all this.
Way to go kagomepass, I think that would be an good ending.

Hey thank kagspass but it was ur idea I just elaborated it. And no im not saying end, end the story. Christ dont be so hasty, Being a sesshoumaru fanatic I want a whole story just about him. I would be hella upset if she does flash back to what jaken said and sessy has his own kingdom and rules the western lands like his father.
And rin is seated at his right And sesshoumaru rules his people with and iron fist in true demon fashion. and starts Repopulating his species. ok thats going a lil far but I would like some closure on sesshoumaru also that was just the inuyasha kagome ending.
Personaly i think rumiko should do a couple chapters dedicated to each person/ group and there own ending. just to officially wrap up this 10 year story.

ya know the only thing im sad about is the story is ending. and ive been reading the mange on this site for awhile now and I just now joined it. Cuz I enjoy debating this stuff but its almost over.
Also a question I have always wanted to ask inuyasha fans. And unfortunatly the narutoengdub.co.nr (Great Dubbed anime there btw) the forum doesnt have many inuyasha fans. But isnt sesshoumaru and Byakuya kuchiki from bleach pratically the same character. I mean there similarities are not by accident. Sess is considered the most powerful demon Byakuya is considered the most powerful of the 13 gaurd squads.
there both lords. anyway the list goes on and i don mean to go offf topic sorry guys. but id love to hear ur opinion.

"Since when has a manga like Inu Yasha turned philosophical (and possibly psychological)???" Post 8580 from Ipsen.
I understand what you're saying…but I can't say I concur. I think one could argue that there's always been a philosophical underpinning to this series (or at least the potential) with the veneer of a regular shounen hero vs. manipulative uber-villain motif. Many of the core plot-subjects we, as fans, have been grappling with are 'mysteries' Takahashi has remained very cryptic and tight-lipped about throughout the series and I, for one, don't think it's a coincidence. She's left a proverbial 'trail of bread-crumbs' and I really expect (or, at least, hope for) a satisfactory explanation/ending.
The Jewel of Four Souls, the Well/God-Tree, the nature of reincarnation and how it plays into the ultimate fate of Kagome/Kikyo's soul(s?)…aren't all of these fairly "philosophical"? However, I'd expect this more of a Seinen manga rather than Shounen, so I definitely see your point!
I suppose Takahashi could just make a claim of "Magic! nothing to explain here, please move along…" but, wouldn't that be incredibly more "lame" than ending with something that might be a challenge to comprehend?

Hey, great and relieving chapter! I'm glad Rumiko ended our nail-biting pretty quickly. I definitely agree that Kagome's life without Inuyasha is quite dull and average. (Did anyone catch the irony in Kagome joining the tennis team? *Maison Ikkoku* :3).
I would like to say that I think Inuyasha will offer to become human. If you'll recall chapter…515 or something like that, right before the Magatsuhi arc, Inuyasha was sitting on Kagome's bed holding the Shikon Jewel ornament, and recalling his old intentions to become human in order to live with Kikyo. He seems to think that this is the right wish.
However, I do not think he will become human. Kagome loves him as a half-demon, and accepts him for who he is. Why would she want him to change for her? While I think it's a beautiful sentiment of love, it is also a rejection of Kagome's loving character.
When he's a demon, he ends up hurting Kagome, and when he's a human, he has a hard time protecting her. But when he's a half-demon, he saves her, and protects her. He is himself when he's a half-demon. Isn't he fine just the way he is?
One last thing: I don't think they will live in her time. She would be living a lie, and what would Inuyasha do? He can survive in her world for a few hours, just barely, and he hasn't learned to do math, or read much, or write much, no matter how noble his mother might have been. How could he possibly go to high school? It's not possible. Besides, Kagome spends all of her time in the feudal era, where she's able to see her friends, and doesn't have to hide anything. I think she will be able to travel between the worlds, but I believe she will live with Inuyasha in his time.
Sorry if you don't agree, but these are just my opinions.
Have a great week! (and I also would love the anime to resume so that I could hear the Shikon Jewel's sexy voice…hehe…yeah right *cough cough*).

Omg, sexy shikon voice XDD I'm all giggles at the possibility. I keep hearing the voice of Chef from South Park. Oh god. I can't stop laughing. LOL! Y'know, since he's so fond of the "I PWN this series even from BEYOND THE GRAAAAVE" thing goin on'.
Naw. Doesn't matter who they cast, Ken Narita still OWNs the role of Shmekshiest Voice in InuYasha. And David Kaye's not bad either. YOU GO, SESSHYKINS! <3 *ditzy fangirl moment*

Maybe it's the fact that the "Tsubaki's Spell' episode was on Adult Swim 3 days ago, but I really felt let down by this chapter.
Parts of the dream sequences were damn near identical.
It's kinda sad to think that Miroku & Sango may never see Kagome again. The well is gone; a lot of choices will have to be made.

@LittleFoxglove: Thanks for the clarifications. And now I have an account here, probably there will be more rampant posts from me for you to 'dissect'! (If Starks decides to keep the site going for a while…)
@Hinkypunk: Thanks for your input. But I do not think I could quite agree with some of your points, either! Certainly, if one wants, one may extract philosophy from absolutely anything around – just contemplate nature and see your path (Zen-ish…) But for Inu Yasha, I would say that those supposedly-encrypted messages are probably more results of 10 years of Ms Takahashi's pen-wandering without much maturity than anything else. And if you think the battling of Good and Evil (all conflicts in Inu Yasha are quite essentially that) is a proof of the series' philosophical level, then I would say that it seems more of a coincidence of plots that Ms Takahashi has embarked upon because it is a popular manga topic, rather than her intention to analyse it. A related Zen saying might be 'Mountains were mountains; mountains are not mountains; mountains will be mountains.'
As regards scores on the lameness scale of this development, I would say that if things go as we project then the transition would be a bit abrupt, and it is this apparent lack of style-consistency that repels me – I would not mind a lame ending for a lame series, but if someone decorates a rotting iron rod with a gold tip, my reaction would be quite markedly different.

I don't know who said it before, but I agree with them in saying that Kagome is probably inside the meidou asleep or knocked out having these weird dreams, or now she is finally seeing what is really happening (the family seeing that the well is gone) and that Inuyasha is gonna bust in and save her and they will share the fluffy moments inside the meidou away from the prying eyes of the others like Shippou, Sango, and of course the always lecherous monk.

Honestly, I wonder about this. The Shikon Jewel fears Kagome, and if Inuyasha makes a wish to become human to SAVE Kagome…you know what I would think would happen?
Inuyasha looks approximately 18-20, whatever. Plus the 50 years…almost 70 years old basically. Now think of this, if he used the Jewel to become human, yeah, the jewel might disappear. But think of this. Inuyasha's true age is like 70 years old! So wouldn't he become a 70 year old human? Just a thought, ya know. Then he'd die soon, and Kagome'd be all alone again, and she would suffer, thus granted the jewel's wish.
But who knows where Rumiko is going! It could go any which way! (GO INUKAG)

Nyahaha, I want Inuyasha to die! Actually he wants to die, do you know how many times he's taken Sesshoumaru's comment, "Go to Hell!" seriously? Once to get Tetsusaiga, once for a shard of the jewel, to fight Sesshoumaru and to get the Meidou attack, and now, to save Kagome! He's pushing his luck!

Hello,
Sci-fi in inuyasha
time-travelling,alternate dimensions, genetically increased creatures(like in Resident evil movie
) than a jevel-like bio-organic creature who has free will and can talk as well. And amazing destructive weapons. Yes it is very scientific. The well could act as a time device like a wormhole where some people are able to pass space and time. What is this story really duty to tell a story about scients or fairy tale or both(because this could be more future realistic :)
