 I think that after the battle Inuyasha will choose to return to the modern era with Kagome.  The well's disappearance makes me sad, but it adds a sense of finality to the series.  And destroys so much fanfiction.

 I would love to see him remain Hanyou, as a major theme of the series is self acceptance.  And I love the fact that Kagome's friends accept him for who he is.  But with the apparent differences in the aging processes, I think the only way for Inuyasha to be able to expect a normal relationship with Kagome is to become human.

I totally agree with you. I've always wanted it to be just InuYasha and Kagome together facing Naraku or the Jewel in the end, simply because it's their story, as in they are the ones who've been most directly drawn into its manipulations, since Kagome's past lifetime. No offence to the rest of the gang, but this is their battle to face. It's personal.

About the "I was all a dream" thing - what we were talking about when we said that [or, at least I was, anyways] was the possibility that during this chapter [554] Kagome had been forced into a present in which her travels to the Sengoku Jidai had never taken place, that her memories of that experience had been taken from her, as though it had all been a dream. But then at the end we saw that it really was just an illusion of the present, so there's that theory blown out of the water. Thank god.

Inuyasha_passion   I just saw the new Indiana Jones last night. 

I thought the first half was good, classic Indiana Jones action.  It started to get a little weird, overly goofy, and unbelievable around the middle, but I was willing to forgive it.  The end, however, was completely over-the-top and in my opinion completely lame. 

It was an OK popcorn flick.  Keep in mind, I'm 25, and already grumpy and jaded.  It might even be something I would have enjoyed when I was 13-14.  No offense to any of you but I think some of our tastes could not possibly be more different.

If you have seen the other movies and if you know anything about crystal skulls the text below shouldn't ruin the movie for you. 

INDIANA JONES SPOILERS BELOW

It's Indiana Jones, you know exactly what it's going to be going into it.  Indy and the Baddies are going to race to find an artifact believed to have supernatural powers.  At the end, the artifact will end up in the hands of the bad guys, who will get too close to the truth they seek and be destroyed by their own hubris.  Meanwhile cynical Indy will learn to respect a supernatural belief that he previously thought was bunk.  First it was a Hindu Cult,* then the Hebrew God, then Jesus.  This time it's Space Aliens.  Which I figured, already knowing that's what a lot of people think the crystal skulls are.  But I think Lucas went way overboard.  What I liked about the other movies is although the supernatural aspect is there in full force, and unapologized for, it is still subtle.  Not this time.  Lucas forgot the meaning of the word 'subtle' years ago.  And far too much CGI.  Five stars out of ten.

Here is what is really going on. The jewel represents the battle between good and evil. Naraku has made the jewel almost totally evil. The jewel has taken kagome inside of it because of Naraku's wish and InuYasha has followed inside the jewel to rescue the one he loves.

I think the story will end with InuYasha and Kagome having to finish the epic battle inside of the jewel. Only then will the jewel disappear and the story will end.

However, On a personal note I want all the characters to be able to live happily ever after together as a whole group. That would be the most satisfiying ending. But I don't know how that can be with the well gone.

What ever happens I can't wait for the next chapter. What the hell is going to happen????????

I wouldn't be so sure about Inuyasha becoming human, by all the time he  was learning that being a hanyou isn't so bad, he is cool as he is. So I don't think this is the right wish. I think Kagome would find something nice, to make Shikon disappear.   Especially she's not Kikyou, and she love Inuyasha the way he is.

I'm still wondering, myself. We all seem to be trying to think of every possibility, cos every so often RT pulls a plotbunny out of her hat that none of us ever saw coming. I think this might be one of those moments, cos it is the finale after all, it should probably go out with a bang. Maybe we're nowhere close to what she has in store with our guesses.

Myself, I still think some things are suspect. Byakuya's been lingering in my mind for a while now. Where's he gone to, I wonder? We didn't see him getting offed . . . or would he have died if his creator died? IS Naraku really dead yet? I'm not quite sure . . . About 7% of me has suspicions that he's managed to live on in some form or other, maybe some kind of manifestation inside the jewel, while the other 93% thinks he's dead. I'm so use to him evading death, that it's hard to believe he even CAN die.

I don't see another battle involving the others happening, though. For one, Miroku's been rendered all but useless in battle, his most lethal weapon now gone. But I definitely think it's not the last we've seen of them. For one, we have to find out whether Sesshomaru decides to spare Sango for what she nearly did to Rin, and for another, I think he may have to use Tenseiga on someone in the end, either on his brother or Kagome, or who knows, maybe even both. I'm quite sure neither of the two will escape from that jewel unscathed, in any case.

As for an epilogue, I really don't about that. It's not quite RT's style, is it? I badly want one, though. I want to see Sango and Miroku get married and have an army of children. I want to see Inuyasha and Kagome get married and ALSO have, well, at least two or three children. I want to see what happens to Sesshomaru and his own motley crew, and whether he eventully ends up following in his father's footsteps in regards to Rin [sorry, I'm a total pro-Sessh/Rin shipper. So sue me =3]. And if Kagome does end up stranded in the Sengoku Jidai side of time? What about her family in the present, I want to see how they deal with that. Anything will make me happy. Just some closure. Who knows, Rumiko might follow through for us. We've been hanging on for over ten years, she might decide to reward our loyalty. ^_^

Not " automatically ", but MAYBE, and IF the jewel is  " cleaned " ! It all depends on Kagomé's wish. It must be necessary that the Shikon no tama will be agree with this wish… And we know that Kagomé thinks about her friends first, and she became much stronger than Kikyo…

And don't forget : Why the Ball was into Kagomé's body ? Because for beginning, it doesn't want to " die " into Kikyo's hands when she died…

So, if it doesn't like Kagomé too, it must find ANOTHER MIKO !!!

Something tells me that it is no coincidence that the Shikon no Tama, which had encapsulated the battle between Midoriko's good and demonic evil, has now also encapsulated Inuyasha, who himself had spent 554 chapters struggling with his own internal battle between his humanity and his demon nature.  The jewel even now has a sacred arrow sticking out of it, much like Inuyasha keeps ending up pinned to the sacred tree with a scared arrow sticking out of his heart.

The jewel has always been hovering around the fate of Inuyasha since the story began…it may now have tied itself to Inuyasha in a way that may force Kagome to make unhappy decisions, and with Inuyasha now perhaps inside the jewel, that tie goes from being metaphorical to deliberately explicit.  Perhaps the jewel will find a new weapon against Kagome by feeding into Inuyasha undecided conflicts in an attempt to turn him feral?  Can the resolution of Inuyasha's issues, such as his conflicting human/demon nature, his relationship to Kagome, and their future together be the key to finally dealing with the jewel?

I have absolutely no clue on what to think when it comes to his decision between staying hanyou or turning human. As most of you know and have stated, the main theme is self acceptance, so he might stay hanyou because he has finally learned to accept himself. And, of course, Kagome loves his hanyou side.
But, there is still the age problem… Inuyasha does NOT want to live for hundreds of more years after Kagome's death; I mean, he's still depressed over Kikyo, and that was only a few weeks ago. How can he live without Kagome for who knows how many more centuries? In conclusion, staying hanyou complicates age.
Also, how would Inuyasha become human? The sacred jewel's wish was already used by Naraku. Which is weird, because Kikyo and Kagome's grandpa said it would be purified once the right wish was made…
RT does have the upper hand though.  She can make it work if that's what she wants. This is fantasy, after all.

So i don't think kagome can return back [not by the well. and the shikon's wish has been used up by naraku] so i think the issue of inuyasha becoming human wouldn't matter as he wouldn't have a choice of becoming so cause he can't use the jewel.. Also, since he'll have a totally warped relationship with kagome if she's 80 and he's 18 or something, he might as well stay in the meidou world and go find kikyo who's clayey body hasn't changed in fifty years. or he could go get kagome to shoot herself to goshinnboku and free her when he looks 30, then they can be together for 15 years, and shoot herself again till he looks fifty and free her again and so on.. but that's kinda bothersome

I'm with Ginger on two counts. One, with the "Why does Inu look the way he looks?" thing. You've got that dead on, that's what I always thought too. Remember Jinenji, after all. Inu certainly got off lucky in that respect.

And second, with the Naraku's wish issue. I'm not too clear on that either. But maybe that was deliberate, maybe that's something they'll need to figure out to escape: what Naraku's wish was. What worries me is, if he wished to be with Kikyo in some way, even if he had to settle for her reincarnation . . . wouldn't that mean he's still out there somewhere, in some form or other?

Is anybody else having a hard time trying to visualise all these issues being resolved in less than at least seven chapters? o_O

    I don't know whether or not this is pertinent to Japanese mythology and folklore, but I know in some cultures, there's a hierarchy based on how closely the spirit (or, in this case, youkai) is able to mimic/approximate a humanoid appearance.

    Anyone happen to know if this is the case? It might explain why the "low-level" youkai and oni encountered in this series are more bestial in appearance while the more powerful entities and foes can appear almost human–but with small differences that mark them as distinctly non-human. Sesshoumaru, his mother, Kouga, and Naraku (after his final transformation) have pointed ears. And, if memory serves, Kouga has a tail? Sesshoumaru might, as well? I'm not sure if this last point was ever resolved!

If that were true, also, it would mean Shippo shows promise of strength in his future too, if his appearance is any indication. I've often wondered about that. Then again, Hiten and Manten are a conflicting pair. Hiten was very humanoid, while Manten was . . . well, sort of like a cranky looking hippo with . . . alopecia or something . . . Hmm. Maybe it's more based on the creature's intelligence? Or is it a mix of both?
