Your hierarchy structure theory is similar to my own thoughts on the matter. If that were true, also, it would mean Shippo shows promise of strength in his future too, if his appearance is any indication. I've often wondered about that. Then again, Hiten and Manten are a conflicting pair. Hiten was very humanoid, while Manten was . . . well, sort of like a cranky looking hippo with . . . alopecia or something . . . Hmm. Maybe it's more based on the creature's intelligence? Or is it a mix of both?

Curiouser and curiouser, as they say.

    I don't know whether or not this is pertinent to Japanese mythology and folklore, but I know in some cultures, there's a hierarchy based on how closely the spirit (or, in this case, youkai) is able to mimic/approximate a humanoid appearance.

    Anyone happen to know if this is the case? It might explain why the "low-level" youkai and oni encountered in this series are more bestial in appearance while the more powerful entities and foes can appear almost human–but with small differences that mark them as distinctly non-human. Sesshoumaru, his mother, Kouga, and Naraku (after his final transformation) have pointed ears. And, if memory serves, Kouga has a tail? Sesshoumaru might, as well? I'm not sure if this last point was ever resolved!

And second, with the Naraku's wish issue. I'm not too clear on that either. But maybe that was deliberate, maybe that's something they'll need to figure out to escape: what Naraku's wish was. What worries me is, if he wished to be with Kikyo in some way, even if he had to settle for her reincarnation . . . wouldn't that mean he's still out there somewhere, in some form or other?

Is anybody else having a hard time trying to visualise all these issues being resolved in less than at least seven chapters? o_O

 But I also was thinking about  Inuyasha turning into human, because pure wish will make jewel disappear, and then Kagome would live in peace, Whan I was readin 553 chapter, I had a strange feeling, that Inuyasha is up to do that, he is ready to do anything to let Kagome live in peace.

Another attitude is they would no longer worry about age differences, sice hanyou lives longer… way much longer…

I really don't know what Rumiko will do, but I don't worry about it. I think it will end up in satisfying way.

And I still don't think Inuyasha is IN Shikon no Tama. I'll just wait for next chapter without making strange theories.

 But I still don't fully understand what Naraku's wish was, and no matter what the jewel itself doesn't seem to have been destroyed.  For some reason I remember something about 'only a pure wish' being able to destroy it.  But I just don't know anymore.

My thoughts: Sesshomaru has two forms: one canine, one humanoid.  Since Inuyasha isn't able to transform, he's stuck somewhere in the middle.
