Now what?

Yes. Inuyasha is over. I bet there are plenty of people out there that are still bummed over this. I'm somewhat over it already despite my mixed reaction to the ending.

But now that the series is over, I bet you all are wondering what's next for Freelance-Manga. I don't intend to ever scanlate again but I have not ruled out the unlikely possibility (click for details). This site or its forums will not be disappearing any time soon. I intend to renew the domain name for at least one or two more years.

As a community, there is still plenty to talk about. For Inuyasha, I'd imagine that there is still room for post-series analysis and examination of the series as a whole. The anime and manga boards have a life of their own (thanks Kaiten). I may also restart the campaign against Viz's flipping of the Inuyasha manga, so stay tuned.

Hey Starks,

If you do decide to tackle VIZ, can you also hit them up about proofreading before they release?  Nothing makes me twitchier than seeing a person's speech in the wrong bubble, and it's happened more than once.  It's a lot of what put me off them.

Thanks loads!

Well first off I would like to thank both Starks-sensei and Patchs-sensei for all their hardwork, timley updates, and excellent scanlations! Domo arigato gozaimasu (Thank you very much) *bow*. I'm happy to hear that you plan on renewing the domain name, i've been following Freelance-Manga for a while now, and I felt kinda bad about never posting anything. I hope that I can still particapate in everyones livley conversations =) and some good post analytical thoughts on Inuyasha as Starks-sensei mentioned.

Thank you very much again Patchs-sensei and Starks-sensei and I hope your endevours go well! *bow*

P.S please excuse the horrible spelling and grammer XP

To SAMURAIDEMONPUPPY

I COULDNT AGREE MORE!! i can not stand it when im reading Inuyasha (most of the time its only Inuyasha i notice this with) someones line will be in the wrong bubble or they'll get the names mixed up, or a word wont even be in there etc!! Viz does quit a sloppy and rushed job with Inuyasha, and ive even read a website where they admited it!

and what do u mean, them "flipping" the InuyashA manga? gawd if they screw anymore up imma beat there heads in.

well thats to bad that ur" retiring" starks, in a way eheh. we love ya! thanks for all youve done, really, u da man. pwwom!

Hahaha, perhapes not, but considering I havent thanked the both of you after all this time, its the least I could do. Besides…..kinda figured calling you "sensei" would annoy ya just a bit ;) Hehehe, but really, if you'ed prefer i'll just use "Starks" from now on. I'll do the same with Patchs, unless she prefers "sensei" or another title of course.

@ SukinuThanks for the translation =) Yeah, "sensei" was an interisting choice of words. I used it to kinda reference Patchs' translations, and Starks' contributions. I say "kinda" because I remember that in the back of the Character Profiles book that Starks showed, they showed an interview with RT and they put "sensei" at the end of her name. I don't know about you but when I saw this it puzzeled the hell out of me. I don't know if it was a joke, if it was in reference to how long she has been writing manga's, or because she is a professional manga writer. I remember an interview with Kubo Tite, the author of Bleach, and the interviewer also called him "sensei", so maybe its the latter.Yeah, I'm not at otaku level yet, but if you know any good anime/manga let me know! =) I agree with you about the added authenticity, I think that it really does add a lot to how everyone interacts with each other. Though in Patchs defense I have seen her add them in ;)

sensei can also mean just an honorific for some one who is good at something

it was in the episode of detective conan where their on the island and there's a telescope is on the lighthouse and the stairs are made of gold

i read a llloooooottt of mangas the number is some where over 145 and i'v only finished a few they have got to move the plot in naruto if they don't figure out the numbers soon i'm gonna start jo jo's adventure piano no mori is good but the monthly is a pain in the neck.  smauri usagi is funny and good nananananana good.

hayate would be my favorite with hana kimi if i got the jokes because michal jackson was funny and the other jokes are there but i don't get them. it feels like an incomplete book but the action is good wtf is up with the talking tiger he should have more roll and plot

Ahhh ok, yeah that makes sense, I remember "senpai" also being used in the same way. Shinobu in Love Hina called Keitaro "senpei"  in a similier way of how I called Starks and Patchs sensei.

I don't think that i've seen the Conan episode your talking about, the only ones i've seen were the ones they used to show on Adult Swim. I don't know why they stopped showing it, I thought that the voice acting and story were great.

Also thanks for the suggestions! =) One of them has Michal Jackson? o.0

Tch, you should see when I IM, its all comas and mass misspellings XP The misspellings can get bad sometimes too

I read the InuYasha mangas and I am very dissappointed in there publishment of the books and the stories. I mean it's not that hard to leard how to read backwards and I see terrible wording in some bubbles in almost every volume. I can't understand how they can be so sloppy and still be one of the biggest anime and manga distributers in the country.

So if you are going up aginst VIZ you have me behind you 100 percent, and thanks for all the hard work you have done.

See ya later.

One of my votes for what to read post-IY is a webcomic called "No Need For Bushido" which is a howlingly funny takeoff on samurai movies, martial arts movies in general, ninjas, the Matrix and a little of the esoterica of Eastern philosophy.  The characters are all a hoot, and once you get to know them, some of the fan art is even funnier.  (Yori and the light stick can still reduce me to a puddle of giggles.)  It updates every Monday (Sunday night if they're on the ball).  http://www.noneedforbushido.com/

The name sounds familiar. I'll look it up. It sounds interesting to say the least! Thanks =)

@ SAMURAIDEMONPUPPY

Thanks for the link! I started reading it and its are characters are really funny, especially Cho! I thought it was funny how they named Cho's fellow Taoists Wu and Tang after their martial arts =P

I don't know if you guys are interested in this at all, but the light novel Full Metal Panic is in DIRE need of translators. I know you guys haven't really done light novels at all, and I know that it is already licensed, but the current translator, Ravyn, just dropped the project (she emailed me that she dropped it. She hasn't actually posted it yet.) and I was REALLY hoping that you guys might be able to pick it up. I've loved the series, and it's getting REALLY good, too!

Well, anyway, if you guys could translate that, I would be REALLY happy. I know a lot of other people would be REALLY happy too. Thank you for listening!

And if you want to email me, my email is Kane99_1@hotmail.com.

Thanks again!

Re: FMP

Oh my god yes that would be amazing! I think we're all clawing our hair out wondering how Burning One Man Force ends.

That being said though, translating a novel is a great deal more work than translating what amounts to a few sentences in a weekly manga.

I'm not gonna hold my breath but if you guys want to consider it you would have a very large base of new fans :)

Yeah, I realize that it would be a MUCH larger commitment. The translations alone would take you guys a long time, and that's not even including clean up. There's a reason that Ravyn and, before her, Boku-Tachi used to take up to 6 months to translate half of a chapter.

However, Langus has a huge point. The fanbase that FMP has is HUGE, even with the 8 odd month hiatus that the translating community has been on since Ravyn's last update, and with her now telling people that she's completely dropped the project… Well, we won't be seeing any more updates unless someone new takes up the job.

So it would REALLY be great if you guys could do that. I would be grateful, for one, and if Langus is any sign, there's a LOT more people hoping and waiting. The FMP boards I've visited are CRAWLING with tidbits from the latest novel. ; P

Anyway, please give it a thought. Thanks!

And Inuyasha101Pokemon, what did that have to do with the topic? It didn't make sense to me.
