"My Sweet Sunday" and the "It's a Rumic World" OVAs
(I'm almost done with editing Unmei no Tori. I can say with almost 100% certainty that the scanlation will be out by Friday, most likely earlier.)
Folks. I am going to be very careful with how I phrase this post. I don't want any misunderstandings.
On March 7th, news leaked on 2ch.net that Rumiko Takahashi and Mitsuru Adachi (of Touch and Cross Game fame) would be featured prominently in the March 18th issue of Shonen Sunday in the recurring "My Sweet Sunday" section of the magazine.
I didn't think much of it at the time, but nonetheless, I felt it was worth mentioning on the site forum.
Fast forward to Tuesday, March 10th. It's Wednesday in Japan, the newest issue of Sunday hits the streets, and the Sunday website gets updated. Normally, this all occurs with little fanfare, especially in the United States, however, this week was different.
It was announced that Adachi and Takahashi would be collaborating on a 30 page one-shot manga to be published in the "My Sweet Sunday" section as part of the ongoing (2 years now?) 50th anniversary celebration of Shonen Sunday and Shonen Magazine. There are currently no details on the plot, script authorship, or even art authorship. What we do know is that people aren't sure of the title of this one-shot. Much of the available promotional imagery has the one-shot associated with, if not titled, the "My Sweet Sunday" name. Until I learn otherwise, I will be referring to the one-shot as "My Sweet Sunday".
Also, before anyone asks. I INTEND TO SCANLATE IT.
However, I will admit that this announcement alone did not impress enough to commit to scanlating the one-shot. Something far more profound did that. There was another announcement.
Bundled with the March 18th issue of Shonen Sunday will be a DVD. On this DVD will be previews of the Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, and Inuyasha (Black Tessaiga) OVAs that premiered in limited fashion at the "It's a Rumic World" events.
Yes. These are mythical OVAs that I, a seasoned raw hunter and former fansubber haven't even seen. As far as I know, nobody in the English-speaking Rumic community has seen them.
This is the announcement that left me speechless and shifted my plans to get the issue in the mail on Wednesday or using someone else's raws to dropping everything and going into NYC to get it on Tuesday evening.
At any rate, next week is going to be exciting as hell. I will keep you guys update to date on any information that surfaces.
Edit 1: You may have noticed that the sidebar is being rearranged and improved. It's a work in progress, but hopefully when I am done, most the current quirks regarding alignment and buttons will be fixed. Also, what you guys think of the new Twitter-powered project status? Also, a podcast revival may be in order. :3
Edit 2: I am well aware that comments look hideous again. I'm fixing them up. Also, you may notice that I have changed the permalink structure posts on this site to something that is more descriptive of content and friendly to search engines. Old style permalinks will still work.
Edit 3: Yes. I plan to rip the DVD when I get back from the city on Tuesday evening.
