Big Inuyasha announcement? A new anime this Fall!?!? (UPDATE 2)

Courtesy of the Rumic World and Inuyasha Information From Japan blogs:

The Shonen Sunday #31 reveals that a big news about InuYasha is announced in #34 on July 22.
Generally speaking, this description means the 2nd anime series starts in October.

I'm a good friend of Higurashi, the webmaster of inu-yasha.org (IIFJ), and I am utterly shocked by this news coming from her. Not so much by the news, but how it was delivered.

Higurashi wouldn't dare make such a confidently worded announcement about a new Inuyasha anime unless she was close to 100% sure that it was a reality. I've known her for at least 5 years and I trust her conjecture on this matter. If she's wrong, I won't hold it against her. If not a new anime, the only other thing it could would be regarding the release date of the Black Tessaiga OVA.

I myself have long stood by the notion that the Inuyasha franchise (not counting manga releases in the US) would only be relevant for one year after the manga finished in Japan. Additionally, I have held that there existed a critical now-or-never window of opportunity between the Fall '08 and Fall '09 seasons inclusively, for a new anime or continuation to be announced.

After 5 long years, is this the news we've all been anticipating?

Edit: To the best of my knowledge, Sunrise has not scheduled any series for this Fall. A new Inuyasha would be the only thing they'd be working on other than the Gundam Unicorn movie.

Edit 2: It is quite possible that the news may leak on Saturday the 18th when the Shonen Sunday issue layout is leaked.

WOW!  I am in shock.  I want to really really REALLY believe that this is true, but a part of me has this feeling that it won't happen (I guess it is just the non-optimistic side of me….especially with the rumors of the anime floating around the web for so many years).  Thanks again,  Starks!

Uh, duh. That's exactly what it's going to be.

Al, that's what I'm afraid of.

However, I don't think a release date announcement would need its own advance announcement.

That's something usually reserved for anime that's getting ready to premiere in a season, not a simple OVA.

Jesus Christ, people are STILL raging over the fact "that kiss" never happened?

I will admit that I miss what Inuyasha for what it USED to be (hell, I still can't bring myself to hate it), but a continuation of the anime? WHY? Her story went to shit in the manga (yeah, I said it), so why would I want to watch that mediocrity in animated form?  Now, if she were to deviate from the manga's path and change things up a bit (read: HUGE plot and character overhaul)…maybe I'd give it a try.

If she were to make an animated continuation of the manga, I'd only watch that if the characters are punched in the throat with time paradoxes.

Thanks for the info, Starks! <3

hopefully, it'll be some form of closure, since they thought that it would be convenient to notify the public two weeks in advance.  if it's another cheap trick where they give us an ova release date, then I'd be screwed.  still, if Higurashi says so….it should be.

Personally, I think this announcement would be 10x greater if the word "InuYasha" was replaced with "Ranma 1/2", but that's just a dream right now. I hope if a second series is what all this is about, that it stays as close to the manga as possible with close to zero filler episodes. At this point there's really no need for any, and the fillers are what made InuYasha even more repetitive than it already was. I wonder how many episodes could be made out of the remaining part of the series. Anyway, I'll still be hoping for someone to make some epic Ranma announcement. InuYasha's a good series and all, but I think Ranma's too underrated and needs the attention it deserves before everyone forgets about it.

Ahhh! I really hope they'll make (or have made) a second series!

And there shouldn't be any problem with filler episodes since the manga already ended. If there are any, I just hope their not totally stupid and pointless, like episode 130. Otherwise I wouldn't mind them. I like fillers as long as they're good.

But we'll just have to wait and see.

i don't know if i should be happy/or deciding that the animators are idiots.  seriously? i can't see why they are finishing it, it just seemed to me that the inuyasha franchise was no longer makeing money at this point, ( Rumiko just  took too long, no way around it at all- makeing all that animated just seems to accentuate that point ).
with that said i do have to say that if the do make it, i want to peek a little,
i just don't want to watch the whole thing though- that would be pushing my patience to the edge.
- even though i am unsatisfied by a lot of things in the manga, there were some interesting points that would be cool to be seen animated. The Inuyasha series will always hold a particular place in my heart because it was responsible for a bunch of important things to me. And i guess thats the part of the reason i'm sorta happy. (then again that might also be because i like seeing an animated series end properlly- stories without proper endings are like a crime in my mind- it must be worse for all anime fans who never looked at the manga)

-now that you mention it, the contents of the OVA did not look very stand alone, more like an episode in a new season :/

so for the better and the worse of it- thanks for the news starks :)
