Badass Kagome is badass. New ending too.

Episode 10: Flowers drenched in sadness
悲しみに濡れる花 (Kanashimi ni nureru hana)

Chapters covered: Rest of 471 through the beginning of 475

New ending this week by alan. It's called "Diamond" and is basically just a slower version of "Essence of me" (according to sakuraangel on Channel Ai, ats- arranged the song and reserved the right to change the title alan chose). In all likelihood, the single version of "Essence of me" that was talked about was indeed "Diamond" all along.

Confusing, I know. I can tell that my overeager reporting didn't help much to alleviate this confusion. Sorry everyone.

As for the ending visuals themselves, they are very charming and snow oriented. But on the whole, I'm not a fan of the new ending. It's pretty weak compared to "With you" or the endings from first series. I also still can't understand why we're got a new one so quickly.

As for the rest of the episode, it was mostly devoted to Kaou (well-animated villain, but nobody wanted to screenshot him) and very hot-blooded Kagome. This wasn't too exciting though as the beginning and end of the episode took a few minutes to set up for the fight to the death with Kanna next week. What was most interesting is that Sunrise gave Kanna a bit more personality than I was expecting with respect to her grieving over Kagura and hatred of Naraku. The scene of her holding the fan was really a nice touch. I hadn't expected the fight with the Mirror Monster to begin this week, but I'm glad that it did in light of the episode 12 title implying the poison jar trials of Yakurou Dokusen.

Viz hasn't put it up yet…do you think this has something to do with their little faux pas last week?

Last week was likely a fluke that nobody at NTV/YTV/Sunrise/Viz noticed or really cared about. I'd say the reason is more technical this week. The Shonen Sunday site is ready for the episode (placeholder and title), but the Hulu video isn't up yet.

Everytime I go to Shonensunday.com to go see if the episode is out, it has a gaint red X slash through the screen where episode 10 is.

What can it mean?

Blame Hulu. The episode isn't on their servers yet or is still being processed.

Hey guys I just figured out how to watch the episode right now. Go to Hulu, click to watch episode 9 and then when the page loads, on the lower left hand side just underneath the video click on 'next video' you'll be able to watch it then.

Wow. The preview for next week is quite nice. It really stresses that Naraku is the one who made Kanna explode and that Kikyou's light is the key to defeating Naraku (lol, red herring).

@ Everyone

My review will be a little late, since Hulu is having a hard time getting the episode uploaded. For some reason, the episode is there on the web, but i cant click on it. The episode is titled, but Marked with an X. It says that theres something wrong with my server.

Normally on the website, the previous episodes would just remain.

Im actually making an account to give a review there on Hulu.com too. I just like coming here also. Ive enjoyed being here since the manga. I plan on writing about the quality improvement of the current episodes, here as well. Could somebody address to me if theres an alternative to Hulu.com??

This is my favorite episode so far. Kagome's strength was clearly shown in the episode, finally. Throughout the series she's honestly developed into a great fictitious role model, besides skipping school so often and whatnot.
I thought it was a nice touch to emphasize Inuyasha's pain over Kikyo by adding in the "If I sleep, I'll dream of her," bit. It truly exemplified the sadness and depression he was going through.
Kanna is pissed! Did you guys see her crush that flower? Poor mirror monster… I'm hoping for a fantastic battle next Saturday. I still can't wait for Inuyasha to get drunk later. That chapter was hilarious.

@ Everyone

My friends, For todays review. Theres quite a bit to be happy for, and a few things to touch upon since the anime continues to annoy me with minor details that seem fan friendly, either Cut or Altered.

The reason I didnt do a review last week was that

A) Most of the manga was adaptated exactly the was it was hopefully intended from fans.
B) I had a schedule.
C) Wasnt Necesary, since most of what WAS there before WAS ALSO LEFT INTACT

Short Review for episode 9

When it comes to Episode 9: Sesshomaru in the Underworld

Everything was the same as the manga, and the differences can either be overlooked as something little, or kept in mind when it comes to how annoying it was to see a Supposed Successor do something not as good as the predecessor.

By that, im shortening this review by saying The HellHound, the Guardian of Hell, the scenes of Koga's departure, Rins revival on Earth, and Sesshomaru's mother scolding her son,  The question of how to handle Kohakus Light, which I now understand as Kikyos Spiritual Energy. Everything this time was like the book with no difference. I’m fine with it……
My Final thoughts on this were that YES Sesshomaru in the Meidou SHOULD HAVE stretched to two episodes, because all we got was A GLANCE at hell. I mean one or two exclusive enemies to add to the story would’ve worked. The whole Kohaku flying in the wind and Sesshomaru saving him with his claw whip ALMOST makes no sense. That was the replacement for Sesshomaru scolding Kohaku for having to rescue him after being told to run, carrying Rin. The arm simply meant to hold a sword thing. Not using it felt hurt and felt like cutting character.

Speaking of Kikyos Death, and future ramifications………….

This reminds of an arguement of last year whether Kikyo's "light" embedded in Kohakus Jewel Shard was her soul, or her power. It turns out that her soul is in Heaven now. The light Kohaku has is the same as it was when they began traveling together (Kohakus light began growing upon feeling redeemed because of the travel with Kikyo), and that light in the shard still is the same even after Intentionally firing an arrow to embed a permanent light within the corrupt near whole jewel. In other words, I think that light in the shard is the influence of kikyo’s spiritual power. The Jewel that Naraku holds with that permanent light is what will show you something very interesting in a few episodes.

- To touch on another Subject, I am just enticed to ask, HOW will things play out when Inuyasha, and Sesshomaru meet? And WHAT will they do when they see each others hard-earned techniques? In the Original Story, Sesshomaru learned about the Dragon Scale from Observing Inuyasha Battling the Meiouju. Later on, Inuyasha Attempted to Battle the Numawatari, (Divine Lake in the form of a water demon). Sesshomaru chastisised Inuyasha for losing to the demon with his dragon power, and being unable to add power to his sword he properly couldnt handle. (And I aint talking of the regurgitation of the demonic energy Folks). I’m talking about the Dragon as a whole (all its powers), against the Numawatari…..

I wasn't going to review episode 9 traditionally because if there wasn’t anything negative to it, than the rest was positively enjoyable…

When it comes to Todays Episode 10: Sorrow Soaked Flowers

There seem to be two storylines going on at once. Kannas manifiestion of her feelings, and Prince Kaou trying to feed off the emotions of several visitors as they visit. This episode was ok, but I don’t see if theres any revelance in changing the approach to the story as in one arc at a time or developing archs in one show. My preference of the pace would’ve been Sunrise ordinarily proposed 52 episode approach. I felt this Kaou one was meant to be a filler that I wouldn’t have minded seeing.

I enjoyed the scene of Byakuya telling Kanna to open her mirror, but I wish some wind could of blown by, to symbolize Kagura’s freedom. I’m starting to feel Kannas character development from the first series adding to this, but I had no idea she had emotions at all when it comes to Kaguras Fan. Would it be wrong to say Kanna is speaking a little more than usual, on the story itself?

While I found the Fan, and flower field bit interesting, it doesnt forgive Sunrise for Skipping even Kannas "Betrayal" of Naraku. Shows me that pretty much all his subordinates are subjective to go rouge, even the most seemingly loyal ones. According to the original story of an elaborate act possibly being staged for Kinka, and Ginka, when it comes to Moryomaru. Given Kannas betrayal and possible surrender to third party, im having trouble wondering if that story in BOOK qualifies as a Red Flag, Or a White Flag of the Void.

In the ANIME Kanketsuhen: Episode 4/171 numbering, it occurs to me………….

Inuyasha hasnt met Byakuya yet. When Byakuya made his appearance (after Moryomaru at that time fled) Inuyasha appeared to be unconcious from the the effect of the Dragon Scale Tessaiga.
In episode 171: Koga, Kai, Hikkaku, Ginta, Kagome, Sango, Miroku, and the others met him in person, and were prepared to fight.

- In the manga Byakuya met Inuyasha FIRST of all people and would've made me ask the same questions if SOMEHOW the anime came first before the manga…

So if Inuyasha hasnt met Byakuya face to face yet, How will that go?!!

@LEVIA
Any sugggestions Levia

On another Note:

I am just getting tired of Naraku hiding out in that Old annoying Hut. You would think that Inuyasha, or Sesshomaru, or even Koga would be able to just track down, and run into Naraku. Naraku doesnt use barriers anymore like the old days. I mean COME ON!! In the manga, sometime after Naraku loses the Fuyoheki, he runs from place to place to hide out.

EXAMPLE  I

In the ORIGINAL Story at points involving Kannas confrontation, Naraku keeps switching from place to place such as a VOLCANO!!
During Kannas original confrontation (which i acknowledged the anime exclusively put more into), Naraku had hidden himself in a place no-one without a barrier could enter. It makes sense given that anyone else other than him could be burned on contact.

EXAMPLE  II

In the Black Tessaiga Manga Arc Naraku retreats to a Forest miles away to regenerate while, Inuyasha is handling other distractions with Sesshomaru. Even the rest of the cast is more concerned about the overall welfare of the Dog Demons welfare, over tracking Naraku!!! I have see the OVA version of the manga, and that is what ticks me off.

That the animators are using that damn place as a home base, when Naraku's original character was switching from Castle to Castle in the ANIME!! I say this because I realize that this is Inuyasha the Anime, not Inuyasha: The Book, The Anime. Though there is a difference between an adaptation that won’t be perfect, and Bastardization!!

Example III

In the soon to be the Shikon Jewel Arc, Naraku finds a new cave to make new plans while a certain new demon battles the protagonists for the first time. It may not be a deal to any of you, but dont you think that after losing the Fuyoheki, Naraku would cut his losses, and skip from place to place like he USED to in both forms of media??

After watching todays episode, I am especially emotionally moved from the scene depicting Kannas reflection both at the start of todays show, and another set of minutes at the end before the credits. Of Course the ending song had beautiful Artwork, and inagery. Reminds me of the first closing credits and song, but at the same time feels entirely new. I’m happy to say this, but I look forward to next week.

There will be something coming up with Inuyasha in a few weeks, and I will need to ask anyone about adaptating whats already adaptated…………………

@Everyone

Despite Kaous devourment of sorrow, through soil and flowers the gang comes out on top. How appropriate to play a winter theme in the Inuyasha credits, at this time of year. Changing "The Essence of me" title to "Diamond". Doesnt bother me for an obvious reason. I bet Sunrise knows that. Next weeks preview is still droping some spoilers. What im glad to feel Surprised by is that on the preview toward Episode 10, no mention of Kanna was till the actual debut excited me!! So who knows what else will be in the next episode??

One more comment I didnt make earlier was that there is a somewhat relevance for Kanna holding flowers at the begining, and at the end of the show. Though not a part of the main story, Kanna has her own facination with nature. Some could say that while the gang of protagonists are dealing with their own troubles in the main story, Kanna has a coincidental occurrence of her own, involving flowers. The Mirror monster seems to have more feelings than Kanna herself at a point in todays episode when it comes to flowers. How strange……

One more on the Sesshomaru Bit, Sorry to be so reoccurring, but the facial expressions of Sadness wasnt as deep and exposed as the manga. In the anime, he just stared at Rin, and the Corpses with a straight face MOST of the time, and the scene felt pretty brief. I think the sorrow would've extended more if Sesshomaru had MENTIONED KOGA. He said it at a different point in this episode. I mean they did meet in the anime, so why the fuck did this episode NOT mention him directly!!! Also I would've like it, if the music had been new, and made me feel more sorrowful than before. I think a quiet version of this scene would've been adequate anyways. The Tensiga song just didnt excercise what we were expecting a little, but everything else was good. The scene just wasnt enough, but something in the end.

To be honest Im relaxed. Sesshomaru in the Neitherworld though wasnt as good as the book. I REALLY mean it, that is no life greater or equal to its original source. It just didnt feel emotional enough. The scene of reviving Rin just didnt need the bad music that it had. On top of that Sure, the episode is good but the things that werent bad to me, was just a direct adaptation. While watching that, i feel like im just watching how close to the manga it is, While i want to see some exclusive to anime things.

Like I said much Earlier: As long as this show is 26 episodes, people will be bound to ask for something new.

I think the underworld scenes deseverd a few more minutes and new material though.

yeah I perfectly got your idea. I think that the episode was pretty enough, and was better to have it instead of more sesshomaru x rin for pedophile people HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA XD (just a joke XD) but i think that sunrise is making more kagura scenes that the manga was, and it touched me lotta XD.

Good ep. For the 1st time in IY history Rin is wearing FOOTWEAR — she must've begged Sessh for a pair of Uggs cuz it looks like that's what she's wearing. Or, it could be DYS was after him for improper care of a child.

oh
man
THANK GOODNESS the ending didnt turn out like the original you linked
what a relief
yes
not as well as they could have done the ending
but I wont complain about it
It was pretty cute
I have a feeling that ending was pretty much made for seasonal purposes
i mean i even heard a few jingle bells

I think I've repeated this before but gosh some of the lighting effects and shading are so pretty in these episodes
its just dazzling I LOVE IT SO MUCH
this scene inparticular caught my eye http://iaza.com/work/091211F/index33179520.html?CURRENTFILE=/work/091211C/dfhggh41187.bmp

I was just a little disapoitined with this episode
they may have added some great character trait stuff with Kanna
but they really cut short some of my favorite scenes from Kaou chapters
like Kagome standing speechless after Inuyasha cutting down Kaou right behind her
little things like that
