Episode 19: Kohaku's Shard
(琥珀の欠片 Kohaku no Kakera)

Chapters covered: 392, 521 through half of 525

Very faithful episode save for the first minute or so wasted in the modern era. I did not appreciate how Sunrise had Inuyasha destroy part of the Higurashi house. The use of payphones is probably a jab at how Rumiko couldn't decide whether the series would have 1997 or 2007 technology. Poor Kagome, all of her friends have cell phones though. Edit: Apparently I completely forget about chapter 392, Peaceful Table. My bad. It was very nice to see it animated.

Animation direction was done by Fujimori this week. His work is really nothing special, but you can thank him for when the animation and emotions peaked during Shippou's conversation with Sango. After that, however, everything started to go downhill. The ending of this episode was not handled that well in the manga to begin with, but the whole "Is it too late?" exchange looked terribly cheesy animated.

Next week, Kohaku goes into badass mode and gets his shard sniped. Should make for good times and a lot of emotion if the manga is followed and given proper deference.

Edit: Episode titles for 21-24 should appear on 2ch some time this week.

Also, remember this?

Why was this ep called Kohaku's Shard when it was really Inu remodeling the Higurashi kitchen? Since when did HGTV enter the SJ to get ideas for new tv home improvement shows and since when did Inu get yet another upgrade for his sword? ie: Noborizaka no Daidokoro (Kitchen Upgrade). And if you're a Bleach fan, it would be Remodelar de Cocina. I don't remember this segment of the manga. Is Inu thinking he's Carter Oosterhouse or something? Or maybe he thinks he's a plumber. Just wondering where the plumber's crack is???? I think the animators were on crack. Good thing he stays in the SJ so he can't be SUED. You remember Kongousouha????  Well for Mrs Higurashi, it's more like I'M GONNA SUE YA!!!!
Yeah, so I agree with Starks — Not a big fan of the beginning but the rest followed to the manga. I just wanted to see Kohaku live again.
Till next week. 7 more left.  (Quote)

It was such an impactant episode you know.
I thought the anime new series wasn't going to have the manga chapter "a peaceful table" 'cuz the first part of that chapter was made as the first miroku's scene in the final act. BUt i'm glad the did it!! :D
On the other hand the last scene of the episode almost  (barely) sucks just I didn't notice Kagome to say "In the shard… there is a light!…kikyo!?… the light which was on the shikon jewel's just gone to the final shard to protect kohaku?!" or sth like that… nd just because of that we couldnt see an adecuate final scene of this wiiiiiiii episode.
( wiiiiiiiiiiii = put the adjective you like most AHAHAH!, it could be a good adjective for ones, and for the others it could be a bad one D:)
The preview looks like REALLY AWESOME!!!!!1 so does the animation! XD

Hi y'all,
First, loved the episode.  Yeah, yeah, the first few minutes might not have made too much sense what with the cockroach overkill and remodeling of the house, but I guess it's ok 'cuz they wanted to add something light and funny before all the drama starts.  And can I say Yay! for the Sango and Miroku fluff!  WooHoo!  Now we get to see Kohaku make with the Eddie Murphy as Dragon in "Mulan"… "I LIIIVVVEEE!!  Okay, maybe not as dramatic, but you get the point.  'Til next time and counting down to 25!

I LOVED the episode! There was fun, dramatic, and tense moments! And I found Kohaku's voice rather cute this ep… and so was Mir/San kiss!  (Quote)
