But Sunrise promised us crossdressing traps…

Episode 22: Naraku: The trap of darkness
(奈落 闇の罠 Naraku yami no wana)

Chapters covered: Second half of 534 through the end of 539

There were some things I liked this week and some things I didn't. First of all, chapter 537 and 538 were adapted to the point where they were practically changed. The end result was rather well-animated claw battle between Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru, but how Inuyasha loses his grip on Tessaiga is a considerable departure from canon. Rather than Narakua and his tentacles being the one to pry it from his hands and removing Inuyasha from the fight, it is instead Sesshoumaru who rather effortlessly knocks it away onto the fleshy cliff and continues the fight. I could continue to remark on this destruction of canon, but I'll not waste my breath. Just reread 537 and 538 and you'll see what I'm talking about.

On the bright side, Shippou vs. Jaken was hilarious and the dialogue with Kohaku perhaps even moreseo. Furthermore, I wasn't expecting the death of Magatsuhi (539) to be covered this week. I'm not sure how this will ultimately affect pacing. Also, remember that 558 has the content of 2 chapters.

Next week should at least get us through 544.

I actually really liked this episode, especially compared to last week's, which disappointed me. It's nice when the anime departs from panel by panel manga adaptations every once in a while, and it keeps a little surprise. I thought the fight scene was really well animated.  (Quote)

I was mildly impressed by this episode. On the one hand the animation was simply BEAUTIFUL (except for just one clip of Shippo's eyes that looked off, but that's probably just me). I'd re-watch this episode over and over just for the artwork if I had the free time. Plus the action scenes were a lot of fun to watch and got my heart pumping, I truly love the action scenes in Inuyasha, they are just so exciting.
On the other hand though, I'm not really sure how I feel about how Sunrise redid the story after Inuyasha comes to grips with himself once he smells Kagome's blood. I am a huge fangirl and my favorite part about Inuyasha is all the fluff. Not that what Sunrise did wasn't a good story, but it's not the fluff that I was expecting that was in the manga. If I had the option to change just one thing about the episode, I would have Inuyasha catch Kagome and have their discussion like it was in the manga. I nearly DIED LAUGHING when Inuyasha started punching himself. I know it was supposed to be a serious scene where he's trying to stay in control of himself, but I'm sorry; that was just HILARIOUS! XD
Okay, that's my rant for this episode. Overall, I'd rate it a 7 out of 10.  (Quote)

I really really liked the scene where Sesshoumaru forces a possessed-Inuyasha back across a bridge and up against that wall. Sesshoumaru's thinly veiled threat to draw both swords and just annihilate both Inuyasha and, once gone, Magatsuhi, was perfect.  (Quote)

@Kat
Yeah, I like the elements of surprise too, but it's just interesting to see and discuss the nuances from the manga. The fight was intense.

@animeluver89
Although Kagome was saved by the wind scar instead of Inuyasha catching her, they still have to come in contact with each other somehow so she can purify him back to a half-demon.

Great episode. This is really tying together well. The only setback is the week we must wait for the next episode. Gah, my patience sucks, but it's worth the wait.  (Quote)

…Cross dressings and menage a manga among anime episodes.

This ep was off on some of the manga contents but it was good overall. I just didn't like the part where Sessh was just swatting away tentacles waiting for Kags to wake up. It made me think he was crocheting or something — like he needed to do something whilst she woke up. Whatever.

There's gonna be Naraku Nudity in the next ep! OOOOO! Can wait.  (Quote)

this weeks episode
it was
SO
BADASS
AND THATS THE ONLY WORD I CAN THINK OF TO SUM IT UP
BADASS.
I swear
I just LOVED hearing that evil laugh of Magatsuhi's come out of Inuyasha it was just so MANAICAL and COOL! AGH!
I've changed my mind
as of yet
THIS was my favorite battle. BY FAR did I get as excited in the first magatsuhi battle as this one. I was on the edge of my seat. Like a little kid watching an action movie and going "THIS IS SO COOL!" the entire time!
I loved the grudginess in Inuyasha voice as he was walking around half conscience. I don't think I've ever heard his voice go down so low like that, it sounded depressing and it was just incredibly fitting. It WAS a little weird how they switched things up and around.
Does this mean they won't have the purifying scene where Inuyasha catches Kagome?
I was really looking forward to that. :C
I wasn't exspecting Magastuhi's death in this episode either…hmmm.
but truthfully
this episode was NOT a disapointment like last weeks.
I throughly enjoyed it.  (Quote)

hey i think it was a great episode… and starks you are right, they've changed some important details. In the manga Naraku's tentacles made inuyasha to be separate with tensaiga, but in the anime was sesshom who does it.  (Quote)

Can anyone explain this to me?

At the end of the previous episode, how did Inuyasha "kill" Kikyo 50 years ago when it was in fact Naraku disguised as Inuyasha who fatally wounded her? Naraku says, "It's the same as it was 50 years ago. You too will be slain by Inuyasha."

Whaaat teh?  (Quote)

@yumi: But kikyo had thought that inuyasha was the one who kill her when she is revived by Urazue and that makes Inuyasha got a it was his fault. Inu used to love kikyo back then but someone (known as narakur XD) had used inu's appearence to defeat kikyo so that she could die thinking that the person she had loved most had betrayed her.  (Quote)
