So, you still want a DVD encode of Black Tessaiga?

Filed under: Random — Starks at 6:25 am on Saturday, July 17, 2010

Almost 2 years to the day of its initial screening…

This video has the same CRC (checksum) as the file named [PSS][D&W][Rumic_World][Inuyasha_SP].rmvb that came out earlier this year on Chinese Bittorrent trackers and ed2k P2P network. All known streams of Black Tessaiga on Youtube and other video sites were created using this video.

Do note that this has Chinese subs. I tried my hardest to get an untouched RAW, but this'll have to do for now. You can play it with SMPlayer (recommended) or VLC.

Have fun searching for the subtle differences between this and episode 15 of Final Act. One must wonder if Sunrise finished animating most of the series in 2008 and simply shelved it for a year.

Adult Swim preparing 1:30 AM slot for Inuyasha Final Act?

Filed under: Random — Starks at 5:11 pm on Friday, July 2, 2010

AS is moving Inuyasha reruns up to 1:30 AM starting on August 28. This is noteworthy because the series has not aired earlier than 5 AM for at least 2 years. As AS cuts most of its anime from Saturday for a 2 AM repeat schedule, one would've expected a more predictable choice like Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, or FLCL for the 1:30 AM slot.

Furthermore, the current run-through of Inuyasha is ending within the next few weeks and would apparently restart from episode 1 on August 28th. This puzzles me somewhat since the 3rd new AS anime of 2010 is supposed to premiere on September 25th. Is it possible that AS could be pairing up the premiere of the Inuyasha Final Act with new Bleach episodes and Kekkaishi episodes a month earlier on August 28th? Maybe, some people are suggesting that AS may replay 164, 165, 166, and 167 at the 1:30 AM slot to better prepare everyone for a September 25th premiere.

At any rate, Viz should be spilling the beans on the dub quite soon at the upcoming anime conventions, namely Otakon.

Animation directors and music for the final episodes

As expected, Sunrise has revealed them.

24: Sayaka Koiso

25: Sachiko Sugimoto and Kayo Tachibana

26: Yoshihito Hishinuma

I'm not surprised that Sunrise is using Hishinuma, one of the more prominent directors from the first anime, for the final episode, but I must remark that he hasn't done anything of merit outside of Inuyasha and Final Act in quite a few years save for Yakitate Japan and that terrible Tales of the Abyss anime (yeah, it looked good, but the 26 episode pacing killed it).

As for the episode summaries, I'm not going to bother trying translating them. I can't.

Edit: I apologize if the mailing list is acting up again.

Edit 2: According to producer Michihiko Suwa, 25 and 26 will have new background music tracks by long-time series composer, Kaoru Wada:

Another look at the Rinne trailer…

First things first, episode 3 of Inuyasha Final Act will air at 2:35 AM JST (1:35 PM EDT). Hopefully the broadcast times will stabilize soon. I hate these drifts.

With that out of the way, let's get down to business…

Titles revealed for episodes 3 through 8 (UPDATED!)

What was first speculated on 2ch.net is now fact after Sony Music Shop [1][2]  and a magazine (pictured above) have confirmed the titles for episodes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

It looks like Sunrise is doing things out of order and I don't like it.

As for the pace, it continues to be absolutely shocking.

Studio DEEN's "Umineko no Naku Koro ni" may have a contender for worst anime adaptation of 2009. If the episode titles and what we've seen so far are anything to judge by, Inuyasha The Final Act is shaping up to be quite a trainwreck.

Edit: In a bit of good news, Fey tipped me off that the anime's producer, Michihiko Suwa of ytv, promised on his blog that episode 2 will be absolutely gorgeous and legendary in nature. Thanks Fey!

Inuyasha Final Act is indeed a pacing nightmare

Filed under: Random — Starks at 1:08 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2009

Sunrise, have you lost your mind? 12 chapters in a single episode?!?! Have you learned anything from animating Tales of the Abyss? You can't cram 20 volumes of content or 70 hours of playing into a 26 episode anime!

Next episode is "Kagura's Wind" and if Sunrise blows through a certain scene, there will be a shit-ton of angry fans (not me though <__<).

Edit: To watch the episode and preview at the end, go to the Shonen Sunday website.

Edit 2: Next week will cover a minimum of 8 chapters, including chapter 404 for some reason.

Edit 3: During the Inuyasha Final broadcast earlier today, an animated Kyoukai no Rinne commercial advertising Weekly Shounen Sunday was shown. Keep in mind that this doesn't mean a Rinne anime is coming anytime soon. There's very little to animate right now. Do note that a similar commercial was done for Inuyasha back in 1997. The anime didn't start until 2000.

Want to watch Inuyasha Final Act as it airs in Japan?

For those that are interested in watching the Japanese broadcast live, unsubbed, and legally; I'd like to recommend tuning into the Nihon TV channel (日本テレビ) on KeyHoleTV, a P2P application created by the Japanese government, at 2:20 AM JST, which is 1:20 PM Eastern Daylight or 12:20 PM Eastern Standard in the US on Saturdays. Adjust for your timezone and daylight savings accordingly.

Behold, the first glimpse at the new series and its opening music.

First two episode titles revealed

The other day, Sunrise posted the first two episode titles on their website and at the same time may have pissed off quite a few manga fans.

  1. Naraku's Heart (奈落の心臓)
  2. Kagura's Wind (神楽の風)

I'm not in a spoiling mood today, but these titles do make me worry a bit about potential pacing. The main issue though is a question of where the anime will start and titles do seem to imply that there might be a jumping or breezing through a dozen or so chapters from where the first anime left off.

On an unrelated note, I'd like to confirm that the first episode will premiere on Sunday, October 4th at 2:20AM on Nippon TV.

Inuyasha Final Act premiere date plus opening and ending performers (UPDATED)

Filed under: Random — Starks at 2:57 am on Friday, September 4, 2009

(Click on image for larger size.)

After a bit of a dry spell with information, we finally have something new to talk about.

Inuyasha Final Act will premiere on October 4th on Nihon TV at 2:20AM JST and on October 6th on Yomiuri TV at 1:44AM JST. The opening will be performed by Do As Infinity (they did the 2nd and 5th endings for the first anime and ending for the 4th movie) and the ending will be performed by AAA.

I had honestly thought that Do As Infinity was done after they broke up a few years ago. Even though I knew they came back last year, having them do another song for Inuyasha is a pleasant and quite appropriate surprise.

Edit: In other news and in case you haven't heard over the past few weeks, Anime-Kraze has confirmed that they will be fansubbing the series.
